Trincomalee beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka. Every year thousands of local and international tourists come here to spend their vacations. Trincomalee beach is located 250km away from the Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo and about 115 miles south of Jaffna. This place is more popular among people for its fine white sand beaches, crystal clear water and for the harbor.
People come to visit Trincomalee beach for different purposes, some want just to explore the natural harbor which is accessible to all types of crafts in all weather conditions unlike every other harbor in Indian Sea. Some people come here to do sports such as surfing, scuba diving and some are coming just to relax and spend holidays.
Whale and dolphin watching is also one of the main tourist attractions in this area. I don’t have any experience about whale watching here, but I heard there are boat services for that. So if you wanna go for whale watching, you need to start it in the morning. You can see many kinds of whales and dolphins there if you are lucky enough. It’s not rare, so you always have a chance.
In Trincomalee, the majority of people are Tamils. So you can experience the Sri Lankan Tamil culture there. Word Trincomalee is originally derived from the Tamil word “Tiri-Kona-malai”, which means “the lord of the sacred hill”. When Sri Lanka had the civil war, this area was not very safe for tourists. But at the present, after the civil war ended, it became a haven for both local and foreign tourists because of the natural beauty of this place. Not only beaches, but there are much more beautiful sites in Trincomalee for you to visit.
If we talk about the accommodations here, all I have to tell you is, it’s not very expensive. You can choose hotels, rented houses, guest houses, bungalows or whatever you like. Living expenses in this area is cheaper. So if you go to the northeastern part of Sri Lanka one day, don’t forget to visit Trincomalee beach, it will be a great experience for your life.
