Body piercing is quickly becoming a trend of the 21st century. Not so long ago, only punk rockers, criminals, and those with 'bad' taste were seen sporting body piercings. Now, body piercings are the choice of people from all walks of life. In fact, it is not uncommon to see common college students, actors, and models, as well as normal people, get body piercings. The following are some of the hottest body jewelry trends currently popular among the masses:

Tongue Piercing: While tongue piercing is a permanent (and often painful) body art, there is definitely a 'bigger' trend for tongue piercings than previously seen. There are many different types of tongue piercing, ranging from very small (close to the surface) to large (several inches long). Common tings include labret studs, which give an extra sensation when the tongue is tapped, and vertical cartilage plugs, which look just like real hair but never need to be trimmed. Other tongue piercing options include the use of hot wax, titanium plugs, or metal rings made of various metals (such as silver, gold, copper, and nickel). Tongue piercing can be an attractive and fashionable choice, though there is also a growing number of women who regret having it (usually because they thought they would enjoy wearing it only a short time).

Eyebrow Piercing: eyebrows are an attractive 'in vogue' nowadays, as women also cover their faces with makeup (usually mascara). If you decide to go for an eyebrow piercing, choose an eyebrow jewelry design that does not require a face-framing product to stay in place, such as gel, flexible foam, or silicon gel. Some people even opt for colored silicone bands, or 'tattooing' the eyebrow with a color of your choosing. Tattooing eyebrows can be an attractive way to bring extra character to your look; colored bands are often seen covering up sparsely colored eyebrows.

Facial Piercing: Although facial piercing has been around for many decades, it is still a growing trend among a select group of wearers. Typical facial features include tattoos around the lips, chin, and nose, although there is also a growing trend for more exotic body piercings heretofore unseen in the public eye. Nudity is definitely out; facial jewelry (especially if covered up by a swimsuit) is considered edgier than tats and often more sexy. It is also becoming much more acceptable to display facial piercings on the brow, eyebrow, and nose.

Lobe Piercings: The labia majora and labia minora are the two prominent labia majora and labia minora, and they are both pierced as piercings - with the Labia majora being completely healed while the Labia minora is not fully healed, or has only slight signs of healing. Septum Piercing: A septum piercing is often seen as the "in" thing for a man, and is very common among young men. A septum (which can also be known as the "urythmatome") is located at the base of the nose, between the nostrils. It is often filled with loose skin tissue, and is therefore a common site for a new piercing. The septum is unique because it is the only part of the nose that can be pierced, and the resulting piercing will have a shape and color that is unique to the individual wearer. Other unique piercing ideas include cartilage piercings (where the cartilage of one ear is pierced into another), lip piercings, tongue piercings, nose rings, and eyebrow rings.
