As you break out your handguns for routine maintenance this spring, it’s the perfect time to make adjustments or upgrades.
If you make adjustments or install new Glock accessories and parts (or parts for any of your pistols), it’s always a good idea to take them to the gun range to put your new setup through its paces.
It’s All About Safety
When you adjust or upgrade your handguns (or any firearms), discharging them for the “first” time in a controlled environment is crucial. While it’s unlikely anything will go wrong, testing newly upgraded handguns at the gun range is a safety precaution.
If there is a jam or misfire, you can address it at the range. Depending on the range, you may have access to tools and support staff who can assist as needed. Of course, you can always bring along your own tools to address any issues that may arise.
Fine-Tune Your Upgrades
When making a visit to the gun range, make sure to bring along a toolkit to fine-tune your work. Maybe you picked up a few parts and accessories for Ruger RXM. After putting a healthy number of rounds through your freshly updated RXM, you might notice the shooting experience isn’t quite where you want it.
It might come down to adjusting the guide rod, the slide, or any of the components you upgraded. Maybe you need to install a different recoil spring over the guide rod. Or maybe it’s a matter of adding lubrication to a part. Spending dedicated time at the range can help you dial in your gun and the new parts you installed.
Take Your Upgrades for a Spin
While safety and fine-tuning your upgrades at the range is essential, the number one reason to go to the range in the first place is simple: to try out your new-and-improved setup! You invested in new parts, like an upgraded Glock 43X slide and barrel, so it’s time to take them for a spin and get a feel for them.
Once everything is adjusted to your liking, you’re set. It’s satisfying when it all comes together and your Glock 43X, or any handguns you’ve upgraded, are truly yours.
