Types of Wine
Wine is categorized into several types based on grape variety and production methods:
- Red Wine: Made from dark-colored grape varieties, examples include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir.
- White Wine: Typically produced from green grapes, common types are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling.
- Rosé Wine: Created by allowing grape skins to remain in contact with the juice for a short time, producing a pink hue.
- Sparkling Wine: Includes champagne and other effervescent wines like Prosecco and Cava.
- Dessert Wine: Often sweeter wines such as Port, Sherry, and Moscato.
Types of Champagne
Champagne is classified by sweetness level and grape composition:
- Brut: The most common, with very low sugar content.
- Extra Dry: Slightly sweeter than Brut but still relatively dry.
- Demi-Sec: A medium-sweet champagne.
- Blanc de Blancs: Made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes.
- Blanc de Noirs: Made from red grape varieties like Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
