What are Single Expansion Joints?

Single expansion joints (often referred to as “SEJs”) are flexible connectors that allow for movement between two sections of pipe or tubing without disrupting the flow of material or air in the system. They consist of bellows (the component that moves), one end connection, and two tie rods. The bellows are typically made from metal such as stainless steel or bronze and can have several layers of reinforcement material such as rubber or neoprene for added protection against wear and tear. Single Expansion Joints can also be made from non-metallic materials like PTFE, depending on the application.

Properties of Single Expansion Joints

SEJs are designed to absorb vibration and pressure while allowing for thermal expansion and contraction within a piping system. They can handle both low-pressure systems (typically up to 150psi) and high-pressure systems (up to 1500psi). They also come in different sizes depending on the application, ranging from 1/2" up to 24" in diameter. Additionally, SEJs can handle temperatures up to 650°F.
