Single expansion joints (often referred to as “SEJs”) are flexible connectors that allow for movement between two sections of pipe or tubing without disrupting the flow of material or air in the system. They consist of bellows (the component that moves), one end connection, and two tie rods. The bellows are typically made from metal such as stainless steel or bronze and can have several layers of reinforcement material such as rubber or neoprene for added protection against wear and tear. Single Expansion Joints can also be made from non-metallic materials like PTFE, depending on the application.

Properties of Single Expansion Joints

SEJs are designed to absorb vibration and pressure while allowing for thermal expansion and contraction within a piping system. They can handle both low-pressure systems (typically up to 150psi) and high-pressure systems (up to 1500psi). They also come in different sizes depending on the application, ranging from 1/2" up to 24" in diameter. Additionally, SEJs can handle temperatures up to 650°F.

Applications of Single Expansion Joints

Single expansion joints have a variety of applications across many industries, such as HVAC, chemical processing, power generation, water treatment plants, petrochemical plants, gas pipelines, automotive plants, shipbuilding yards, etc. They are particularly useful in situations where multiple connections need to be accommodated, but space is limited; for example, in tight corners or near walls where other types of joints might not fit.

Benefits of Single Expansion Joints

Single expansion joints offer numerous benefits over traditional rigid piping systems, including increased flexibility which allows for greater movement during installation; reduced noise levels due to their ability to absorb sound waves; improved safety due to their ability to reduce vibrations; better reliability compared to traditional rigid piping systems since they can withstand more pressure; longer life span since they require less maintenance than rigid piping systems; reduced installation costs due to their simple installation process; and finally cost savings since they require fewer components than traditional rigid piping systems.

Single expansion joints provide an invaluable service by allowing for movement between two sections of pipe or tubing without disrupting the flow of material or air in the system while also providing additional benefits such as improved safety and lower costs compared with traditional rigid piping systems. This makes them a great choice for any facility that needs reliable performance at an affordable price point.
