What Does Every Dad Really Need to Carry in their Backpack Baby Bag?

You’ve seen those dads before. They cart around big backpacks while carrying their babies around. Will it be your turn soon? If you’re preparing for the birth of your child and wondering what goes into that big backpack, here’s a list. You’ll want to ensure you follow what’s on the list when it’s time to pack your own.

Remember Five Things

Before loading up your daddy diaper bag, remember that the items in your backpack must always cover five things: hygiene, soothers, food, comfort, and entertainment for the baby.

Hygiene

You should include diapers, wet wipes, a changing pad, and a change of clothes in this section. For diapers, it would be best to pack one or two for every two to three hours that you’ll be out and about. Choose hypo-allergenic wet wipes. Some aren’t ideal for a baby’s sensitive skin, so watch out for that. A change of clothes for the baby is always a must. You can change your baby after a diaper change or if your little one is sweaty, cold, or uncomfortable in their clothes.

Food

Bring formula for infants or breast milk. You can also bring along baby cereal since that’s best for early teethers and can keep your baby busy. As your child ages, you’ll need to bring more snacks for toddlers.   Bring both snacks and food for your baby. Don’t be afraid to let your baby try different textures and tastes to develop your little one’s palate. Introducing your child to a wide range of food choices also ensures they won’t be picky with food when they grow up.

Soothers

Babies get upset when they’re tired, hungry, or in pain. You’ll want to have soothers ready from your child’s favorite stuffed toys to an extra blanket, pacifier, and any other thing you can think of that can help soothe and calm down a cranky baby.

Entertainment

Look for age-appropriate books and toys. Anything to keep your baby entertained or that stops them from crying should be tucked into your bag. That’s one way to bring a baby anywhere without upsetting them. One look at their favorite toy, and they won’t give you any grief, hopefully. It’s also the stage where you start to see what captures your baby’s interest.

Comfort

Keep your baby comfortable when you’re outside the house. There’s no air conditioning, so it may be a little warmer. Is your baby used to those temperatures? Some babies prefer colder weather, so you’ll want to bring a hat and an extra layer that you can toss over the stroller to keep the sun out of your baby’s eyes or face. A tiny towel or blanket can is also handy. It can work as an added layer of protection against sun exposure. But you can also use that light towel to cover up when you nurse the baby. That way, you won’t have to bring a nursing cover. That should function as both, which is great since it can save you space in your backpack, giving you room for more.
