Description
The purpose of the Headgear is to protect the wrestler's ears and not his head specifically, as the name implies. Hence, wrestling headgear tools are called ear guards or ear protectors. The headdress often covers the wearer's ears, has two belts behind the head, two that extend over the front and top of the head, and one strap that goes under the chin (and in some cases, the belt reaches the chin).
Reason
The wrestling Headgear is designed to protect the wearer from long-term injury. The constant punching of a wrestler's ears if the headscarf is not worn can affect blood vessels in the ears to rupture. These types of damages do not cause any external bleeding. Still, very painful blood bags begin to form inside the ears, leading to permanent deformation of the ears.
Mandatory or optional use
The headscarf must be wear in high school and college wrestling in the United States. Whereas in Canada and international competitions ( freestyle wrestling and Greco-Roman wrestling ), wearing headscarves is permitted, but it is not mandatory.
In some cases, if a wrestler has had facial problems - such as a history of a broken nose or wrestling with stitches in the face - he may also have the option to wear a face mask attached to his hood. A wrestler must have a note from a doctor in the USA stating that a face mask is required. Since the opposing coach can request these documents before every match, they must regularly carry them.
In the past, at the senior levels, Olympics, and World Championships, a wrestler could protest, and his opponent would have to remove his hood. But that is no longer the case, and a wrestler is permitted to wear a headscarf even if his opponent protests.
