A network of computers is used to store and track transactions using the distributed and decentralized digital ledger technology known as blockchain. Each block in the blockchain is linked to the one before it in a chronological and immutable manner, and each block contains a record of transactions.
The fact that there is no central authority or middleman controlling the data is one of the main characteristics of blockchain. Instead, the network's nodes cooperate to validate and add new transactions to the blockchain because each node has a copy of the ledger.
