What is Legislation?

Legislation is a set of laws that will determine and regulate a matter, it is also applicable to a region such as an entire country or a municipality, they can even govern behavior within an institution, as an example we can mention that a province may not have the same laws as another, just as it can happen between companies of the same or different category.

The laws order the daily life of citizens, making it clear which actions are right and which others, on the other hand, are wrong and could be punished with different sanctions. The laws also explain how someone will be punished if necessary, based on what happened. Legislation is also often synonymous with the word law or can be used to refer to a legal system.

Why is legislation important?

It is necessary that laws exist, because if we lived in a society without them, and everyone acted as they wanted, the whole society would be in great chaos, and there would be many conflicts over various issues.

It is necessary that there is something that tells us how to act in a certain situation, because as we said before, if each one reacted according to their own reasoning, we would be in trouble, people would spend time fighting because they would not know what things are normal Which ones are correct or which ones are incorrect.

How does the legislation work?

In each country the laws are sanctioned by legislators and must be respected by all citizens without exception, thus contributing to the common good of the region where they are located. There are times that these laws are overlooked in some cases and do not receive any sanction, we can name in this case a person who, to defend himself, performs an action that ends the life of another person. In this case there is a death made intentionally, but it was in defense of life itself. Obviously, this is just one example and not all countries have laws that protect self-defense.

In each country, the largest set of laws that exists is the National Constitution, which forms the supremacy of laws. It is a book that begins to be written from the formation of the country, as a State, and there all the existing laws are being written. Many times, just as all things change and are updated, it is necessary that the National Constitution be updated in certain aspects. For example, many countries now have approved homosexual marriage or the possibility for people to choose which sex they wish to have on their identity card, an issue that was unthinkable in the last century.

All the laws that appear in the constitution are the product of the work of the legislative power of the nation. As for existing laws, there are also people who monitor that these laws are followed. For example, we have the traffic police that not only monitor traffic, but also everything that has to do with the issue itself, such as what to do in an accident or what are the fines that apply in each case. As another example, we can mention park rangers who care not only for the environment, but at the same time make sure that people do too.
