Chittorgarh Fort.

When we talk about Chittorgarh the first place comes in our mind is Chittor Fort, the largest fort in India and Asia. The Chittorgarh Fort is a massive structure which was built in the 7th century and covers an area of approximately 700 acres. This historical fort is the pride of this Rajasthani town. Almost everyone have seen the movie Padmaavat starred Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. That movie was based on this Fort. The best time to visit Chittorgarh is during the Jauhar Mela, which is held annually to recall the painful sacrifice made by Rani Padmini and the ladies of court in the fort after a war was lost by their men. This fort was sacked thrice; first in 1303 by Alauddin khalji, then in 1535 by Bahadur Shah of Gujarat, and lastly by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1568. 

 

Vijay Stambha.

Basically known by the name of victory tower, the huge tower was constructed between 1442 and 1449 by Hindu Rajput king Rana Kumbha of Mewar for celebrating his victory over Mahmud Khalji. Vijay Stambh is a nine story tower with a height of 37.19 mtr. Made with red sand stone and white marble, this tower has a balcony in each floor. Vijay Stambh is located in the Chittorgarh Fort at a distance of 5 km from centre of Chittorgarh on Fort Road. One can easily reach here by rickshaw, local bus or taxi or just by walk. 

 

Padmini’s Palace.

Padmini palace is three storied building built in the 19th Century and is situated at the southern part of Chittorgarh fort. This palace was the royal home for rani Padmini known for her incomparable beauty. Allured by her beauty, Alauddin Khilji fought a fierce battle with Rana Ratan Singh, husband of Rani Padmini. This place is must visit place in Chittorgarh.

 

Rana Kumbha Palace.

Rana Kumbha Palace is a 15th-century palace where Rana Kumbha lived and spent his royal life. This palace is situated near Vijay stambh inside the Chittorgarh fort. Rana kumbha palace is the oldest structure inside the fort. 

Kirti Stambha.

Kirti stambha is also known as Tower of Fame, built in 12th Century by Rana Kumbha to celebrate his victory against Khilji. It is decorated with the naked figures of the Digambers. There are seven floors in the tower and a narrow staircase leads to the top from where you can look at the best view of Chittorgarh.

 

Fateh Prakash Palace.

The Fateh Prakash Palace is also inside the Chittorgarh Fort, situated near Rana Kumbha Palace is a striking structure. Its chief attraction, and one that distinguishes it from the other buildings of the fort, is that it is built is a modern fashion as opposed to the other structures. The palace was built by Rana Fateh Singh and named after him. This palace is very famous for big Lord Ganesha’s Idol and a huge fountain. There is also a gallery in this palace dedicated to the armors and weapons used in the historical times. This fort is a classic example for Rana Fateh’s love for art. 

 

Ratan Singh Palace.

Ratan singh palace was built by Maharana Ratan Singh during his lifetime within the fort of Chittorgarh. From the northern part of Chittorgarh Fort, this massive construction can be easily viewed. This fort was used for great ceremonies and functions by the royal family, and has a beautiful architectural style.  The palace is located along Ratneshwar Talab and so here you will get a pleasant view of fort ground.

 

Gaumukh Reservoir.

Located on the western side of the Chittorgarh fort, the Gaumukh Reservoir is a beautiful water body that adds to the scenic beauty of the whole place. Shaped like a mouth of cow from where it gets its name, this reservoir is filled through the water that flows through a crack in the Rock. Because of its association with cow, this reservoir holds a lot of religious significance for the Hindus. Feeding of fish can be listed as a 'must do act' during a trip to Gaumukh Reservoir. The Samadheswar Temple is located close and provides a lovely complement to the holy reservoir. 

 

Kumbha Shyam Temple.

Kumbha Shyam Temple served as a private place of worship for Meera Bai. She spent long hours here in dedication to Lord Vishnu. Meera Bai was the follower of Guru from the holy land of Varanasi. The markings of the footprints of Guru Ravidas have been preserved in this place of pilgrimage. The Kumbha Shyam temple was built on Meera Bai’s request. The Kumbha Shyam Temple was originally built in the eighth century. Maharana Kumbha later repaired and revamped the temple during the fifteenth century. Thereafter the temple was renamed after him. The temple is also a great place to understand the artistic taste of Maharana Kumbha. The carvings on the walls is one of the most beautiful thing to see in this temple.

Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary.

Sitamata wildlife sanctuary is one of the prettiest place to visit in Chittorgarh and especially for photography lovers. This place is best in class for taking pictures. Here you can see the flying squirrel, spotted deer, wild bear, four horned antelope, nilgai, jungle cat, jackal, hyena, leopards, wild pangolin can be seen here. 

Apart from its varied wild life, this sanctuary is also important for its mythical and legendary connections. It is the same site where Saint Valmiki’s Ashram is located and it is here that Luv and Kush (the twins born to Sita and Lord Rama) were born. So this place is called Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary.
