Why Green Foods Are Important For Rabbits

One essential part of your pet rabbit’s diet is green food items.  Greed food items include parsley, celery, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, romaine lettuce, kale, collard greens, and dandelion greens.

This green food will have similar nutritional content as hay, and in addition, offer a wider nutrient selection and also adds water to your pet’s diet.  This becomes important since rabbits will not always take in adequate amounts of water.  If you offer your pet rabbit plenty of greens, then you might notice your pet drinking less water.

Greens benefit your pet’s gastrointestinal system, kidneys, and bladder.  However, your rabbit’s diet should not have green food items as the main component because this kind of food will not offer your pet enough calories that will sustain their normal weight.

Greens are ideal for rabbits of any age.  If at all possible, grow these greens on your own or purchase organic ones.  Be sure that you wash greens first before offering them to your rabbit.  The recommendation is to offer 3 kinds (at least) of greens every day to your pet.
