Italian cuisine is famous for its pasta, pizza, and tiramisu so it would be understandable if you might think that they might not care much for grilling food directly over a fire on a barbeque. Well, you are going to be quite surprised because Italians love their grilled food just as much as the rest of us – in fact, despite the stereotypes, Italians love to eat all kinds of foods and not just the dishes that they are famous for.

As you might expect, the Italians like to put their own stamp on things too, so not only do they enjoy eating grilled food, they even have their own recipes. Take a look at three of those Italian BBQ recipes, or how Italians themselves would say "ricette bbq" below:

Grilled, Stuffed Portabello Mushrooms

Portabello Mushrooms might sound Italian but they have been given this name as nothing more than a marketing ploy. Let's be honest, a fancy Italian name is going to be able to sell any kind of food to just about anyone.

Despite that, grilled and stuffed portabello mushrooms is still an Italian inspired dish and one that the Italians themselves just love to bits. These mushrooms are stuffed with tasty ingredients such as cheese, tomatoes, and a plethora of herbs that helps to deliver a sumptuous end-result that works equally as perfectly as either an appetizer or a side dish.

Chicken, Bacon and Vegetable Speidini

Okay, essentially these are skewers with a fancier name but they have been famous in Italy since way back in the 1970s and 80s. Slices or pieces of vegetables, bacon, and chicken are all skewered on a stick and then grilled directly on the barbeque.

However, those Italians love adding their own flavors to any dish and that is why they would never simply grill their skewers as they are. They throw in some fresh herbs among the meat and vegetables and will always marinade any meat before grilling.

Bistecca Alla Fiorentina

How about a proper main dish that is a traditional Italian dish that perfectly embodies the true simplicity of Tuscan cooking. Sure, it might look like what it is, a porterhouse cut of steak that has been grilled to perfection but there is more than meets the eye with this recipe as you might expect from Italian cuisine.

This porterhouse steak comes from an ancient breed of cattle that is known for being extremely flavorful. That Chianina breed of cattle and the meat that it provides means that there is little need to marinade or add many other ingredients. This is done purposely to enhance the flavor of the meat that is already there. Simply grill the salt and pepper seasoned steak on high heat to ensure a traditional rare to medium and you'll have a meal that you will never forget.

Conclusion

Grab your barbeque, pick one of the above (or all three if you like) and you're certainly in for a treat. Italians love their food and know how to cook and as you're going to find out, this love and ability also stretches to BBQ food as well.
