Gearing up for summer? You’re probably looking forward to breaking out your summer dresses again, especially with even more restrictions coming down and going out becoming easier.

If you’re in the mood to add a few new pieces to your wardrobe for the season, we alswo have suggestions here. Today, we’ll talk about the top dress styles for this summer!

1. Tiered Dresses

Tiered dresses, like most things in the fashion world, aren't really new. They technically go all the way back to Victorian times, even, when skirts typically had three or so tiers.

Nowadays, of course, tiered dresses can also come in rather simpler lines than the old Victorian ones. One of our favourite versions is decidedly for summer, with a streamlined top half and relaxed tiers of fabric in a flowy skirt.

The tiers add a touch of interest and movement to what would otherwise be a simple straight or A-line dress. Definitely a must-have for your summer wardrobe!

2. Pleated Dresses

Pleated skirts are another way of adding texture and interest to otherwise clean lines. They’ve been around for quite a while, but we’re seeing them more often on the runways right now.

Like tiered dresses, pleated-skirt ones actually take their inspiration from earlier times (like the 50's). Today's versions come in a variety of modern styles, though.

The best thing about pleated dresses for summer is that they instantly add a way to soften what would otherwise seem to be a staid, stiff look.

Remember that pleated skirts are traditionally associated with prim schoolgirls and schoolmistresses. A lot of summer dresses using the style soften that impression with things like more casual or relaxed necklines.

3. Cutout Dresses

Fine, the style isn't really new. But it's still a huge presence on the catwalks, so you know that this trend has pretty impressive staying power. Why not try it while it's still on-trend?

The beauty of cut-out dresses is that you can choose from such a wide variety of cutouts. Want a peek-a-boo slash along the midriff? Done. Prefer something that shows off your shoulder blades? Easy!

There are some more daring options nowadays too, of course, including ones with bold cutouts just on the hips or plunging necklines. There are even asymmetric options if you want something a bit different.

Either way, you're sure to find something that shows off your favourite asset. Just be sure not to parade around too much in direct sunlight or you'll end up with interesting tanlines.

4. Halter Dresses

Probably one of the best trends to take on every summer when you feel like bringing out a little sexy something, really.

The halter is just about everything you could want in a summer dress. It can look relaxed, stylish, and undeniably sexy thanks to its bare shoulders and low back.

Our favourites are the ones with flowing material and bold, all-over prints. Done right, they offer a splash of elegance to go with their appealing lines.

If you want something a bit more high-fashion – say, for a special occasion or night out – try looking for a halter with metal-sheen fabrics. They’re very in right now and also represent a stunning way of adding a bit of glam and glitter to your look.
