IVF is the most selected option if other options of ART fail to work out. However, IVF is also prone to failure. There are many causes of the failure of the procedure which are not in our hands.

According to IVF Center, some of the factors can be reduced by you and the fertility specialist. Before you opt for IVF, we should take a look at the reasons for the failure of IVF:

1. Low quality of the embryo

Poor embryo quality is quite often the reason behind a failed IVF. It may carry flaws that are not detectable through tests. It may also show poor development due to chromosomal anomaly or defects in the genetic makeup. You must not blame yourself for the debacle as poor embryo quality may be caused in perfectly fertile couples too. It is just difficult to notice an early pregnancy loss in such cases, therefore, it goes undetected. If you undergo such a loss in IVF, it is advised that you undergo PGS (preimplantation genetic screening ). It is especially advised for over age women. It will help in recognizing poor embryo quality and chromosomal anomaly before proceeding with the embryo transfer.

2. Ovarian quality and age of the woman

Aging is a significant factor in determining the fertility of women. The decline in fertility happens much earlier in women than in men. Women are born with all the eggs they will release thus the quality and quantity of the eggs in the ovaries declines as a woman ages. The ovarian reserve of the woman can be tested by fertility specialists through a variety of tests.

Freezing your eggs is one option that can be used to ensure good egg quality even if you plan to postpone the pregnancy. If that is an option you have not chosen in the past, then it is necessary to use the egg stimulation process using medication or take the services of an egg donor.

3. Poor ovarian response

It refers to the condition of failure to produce multiple eggs or high-quality eggs. It is likely to be caused if you have the following factors -

Your age is above 37You have high FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) levelsYou have low AMH (antimullerian hormone) levels

If you are suffering from such conditions, your doctor will have to change the amount or type of fertility medications being used for you. The change should make an overall change in your ovarian response.

 4. Implantation problems

Another significant aspect of successful IVF is the successful implantation of the embryo. If it is unable to properly attach itself to the uterine lining, then the pregnancy will never happen. This may happen if the embryo is nonviable, or the uterus is hostile to the embryo. Lower implantation rates might occur due to a thin endometrium (the lining of the uterus). The presence of polyps or fibroids may also cause such problems.

If you are suffering from the failure of IVF cycles, then it is highly likely that you might be suffering from the above-given reasons. We have specified the remedies alongside. It is advised that you and your fertility specialist work towards it.
