When it comes to experimenting with makeup, the sky's the limit. Updating your routine with time is very important. Why? Some skin-friendly ingredients then might be upsetting your skin now and leading to premature ageing, fine lines, wrinkles, and whatnot! And who wants that?

So, here’s a list of seven everyday makeup errors you have been making and a guide on fixing them.

Error #1: Skipping on Skin Prep

What’s the first thing you think of to put on your face when you think about makeup? Foundation right? Wrong! If you start directly with cosmetics products, your skin will start getting irritated in the long run and look dull.

Fix: To avoid looking dull and dehydrated, prep your skin before your makeup routine. Start with a freshly washed face and apply toner generously. Then top it off with a hydrating moisturiser. Do NOT forget to apply sunscreen.

Error #2 Not Washing Makeup Your Brushes

If you’re prone to not caring about your makeup brushes once done with your makeup, you might want to stop it. All the oil and dirt accumulated on your brush might cause nasty pimples to appear on your skin.

Fix: It's simple: wash them regularly. Take a mixture of soap and water and use that to clean your makeup brushes. If cleaning an eye makeup brush is getting tricky, opt for makeup brush cleaners.

Error #3 Not washing your face at night

If you don't wash your face before bed, it can lead to oil buildup, rashes, and a dull complexion. While using cosmetics like a color corrector and mascara can up your beauty quotient exponentially and are safe, it still isn’t a good practice to sleep with a full face of makeup on (take note, TV serial actresses!)

Fix: After a stressful day on the streets, don't run to the sheets. Wash your face thoroughly before bed. If you use too much makeup, try double cleansing your face. Use fragrance-free face cleansers for the best results!

Error #4 Not using a blush

Blush is an excellent way to make your skin look younger and healthy. Not using the right shade or not knowing where and how much to apply is yet another reason makeup fails.

Fix: Try pinching your cheeks and see the colour that appears. That’s the colour of blush you need. Avoid using blushes that are too shimmery, bright, or powdery. Start with a little and build it up. Blend it thoroughly for a natural appearance.

Error #5 Applying a wrong shade of foundation

A mistake made by everyone at least once in their lifetime. Applying the wrong shade of foundation can make you look too white or ashy. No matter the amount or quality of makeup you use on it, you won’t be able to achieve that flawless look.

Fix: Try testing out the foundation on your jawline, and it’s essential to try out the foundation in natural lighting. Foundation tends to get oxidised, so keep that patch on your skin for a long time before purchasing it.

Error #6 Overdoing your mascara and not replacing it

Mascara can help accentuate your eyes and give your lashes a fuller look but overdoing it will bring extra attention to wrinkles and dark circles. While applying mascara, the microorganisms latch onto the wand and enter the tube, making it a breeding ground for germs to grow.

Fix: While applying this eye makeup, stick to a single coat of mascara. On the lower lashes, apply whatever is left on the wand. Use a color corrector if you have dark circles. If you’re a heavy mascara user, replace your tube every 2 to 3 months and 5 to 6 months for occasional users.

Error #7 Not switching your makeup seasonally

Switching your makeup and skincare prep as per the season is very important. Skin tends to get dry during winters, so your skin will look dull and patchy if you’re not using hydrating makeup.

Fix: What helps in summers won't necessarily help in the winters. Use sweat-free makeup in the summers and skin hydrating makeup in the winters!

Hope your makeup stays flawless throughout the day and you need no touch-ups!
