Where are Stanley Tools made?
STANLEY opened its doors in New Britain, Connecticut, in 1843. Much has changed in the last 175+ years. Still, our commitment to providing top-quality, dependable tools continues, featuring a lineup of select products made here in the U.S.A. with global materials.
Today, STANLEY is one of America's leading manufacturers of hand tools and accessories for professional users. We offer over 2,500 products through our catalogs that are sold through hardware stores, home centers, and other retail outlets across North America, as well as direct to consumers via our website and catalogs.
We have a strong commitment to manufacturing all of our products in the U.S., but we also understand that today's market requires us to source globally whenever it makes sense for our business or when there are no alternatives available within North America that meet our quality standards.
Who owns the Stanley brand, and what is its history?
In 1843, Frederick Stanley started a small shop in New Britain, U.S.A., to manufacture bolts, hinges, and other hardware from wrought iron. With superior quality, consistent innovation, and rigorous operational improvement, Frederick Stanley's company, known then as The Stanley Works, defined excellence, and so did its' products.
From the beginning, Frederick Stanley was determined to be the best. He had his vision for the future of his company, and he knew what it would take: commitment to quality and continual improvement. He was just as concerned about the quality of his product as he was with the well-being of his employees; he made sure that they were treated well by providing them with good working conditions and fair pay.
Over time, Stanley Works grew into one of the world's largest manufacturers of hand tools used in construction projects around the globe; however, it wasn't until after WWI that they began producing locksets which became their most popular product line. It wasn't until recently that Stanley Works merged with Black & Decker Corporation, resulting in an even greater opportunity for growth through shared resources but maintaining their own identity through continuing tradition at each location worldwide!
Since 1843, we've set the standard for excellence in everything we do. No company on earth has a stronger or more compelling history of delivering the hardworking, innovative, powerful tools that help professionals worldwide build, repair, and protect the world's most valuable things.
Just as it was in 1843, our passion for excellence is seen worldwide in our disciplined operations, purposeful business growth, and loyal customer relationships. We believe that if you give your customers products, they trust to get their jobs done every day—and treat them like family—they'll keep coming back again and again.
It all started with Samuel Colt's revolver: a weapon that changed warfare forever by making it possible for one person to kill another from even greater distances. It was an invention so important that it's now on display at the United States Patent Office Museum in Washington, D.C., where it serves as a testament to American ingenuity—and a reminder of how far American manufacturing has come since then!
