A Step-by-Step Guide on Refilling Canon 245 Ink Cartridges

Refilling a cartridge with ink left inside will only lead to spills and messes. So first, make sure your cartridge is empty by running the printhead cleaning mode from your computer. If the printed piece of paper shows streaks of ink rather than visible lines, it’s a sign that you have no ink left.

Canon offers proprietary refill kits for their printers. Generally, these kits will come with ink for all the colours in your printer, a thumb drill, and a syringe.

Always make sure that the refill kit is made for your printer. For instance, if you own a Canon Pixma MG24020, Pixma MG2924, or Pixma iP2820, you will need ink for a Canon 245 cartridge.

Once you’re ready to refill your cartridge, take it out of the printer and place it on top of a few layers of paper towels. This way, you don’t have to worry about cleaning up accidental ink spills.

You can then peel the label of your cartridge off, drill a small hole using the thumb drill in your refill kit, and inject a syringe filled with 10 to 18mL of ink into the cartridge. Make sure to inject slowly until you can see the ink welling up through the hole.

Finally, wipe off any excess ink from the cartridge and leave it in the printer for eight hours. This step ensures that the ink has properly saturated the sponge inside the cartridge.
