What Are Antifungal Drugs and How Do They Work?

Fungi can be found in a variety of habitats all around the world. The majority of fungi do not cause disease in humans. Some species, however, can infect humans and cause sickness.

Antifungal Drugs are prescribed to treat fungal infections. While the majority of fungal infections affect the skin and nails, some can develop into more serious and possibly fatal illnesses such as meningitis or pneumonia.

Antifungal medications come in a variety of forms to combat fungal infections.

How they operate

Antifungal Drugs can function in one of two ways: they can kill fungal cells directly or they can inhibit fungal cells from developing and prospering. But how do they manage it?

Antifungal medications work by targeting structures or functions that are required in fungal cells but not in human cells, allowing them to fight a fungal infection without causing harm to your body's cells.

The fungal cell membrane and the fungal cell wall are two components that are frequently targeted. The fungal cell is surrounded and protected by both of these structures. The fungal cell can burst open and die if either of them is compromised.
