The Korean People's Power said on Monday that it “applauds the passion and determination of all athletes” at the conclusion of the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games.
“The Games concluded on September 23 after a year-long postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the brilliant efforts of our athletes after a long wait were enough to inspire the people,” said Yoo Sang-beom, senior spokesperson.
“The national anthem that echoed in Hangzhou and the history written by the Taeguk Warriors moved the nation deeply,” he said. “I would like to thank all the national athletes, their families and leaders for their passion for the Asian Games and for providing hope and inspiration.”
“The entire Korean athletes are our heroes, and we are proud of them,” Yoo said, adding that the power of the people will continue to support them in their hope-filled journey.
In total, South Korea won 190 medals at the Games, including 42 gold, 59 silver, and 89 bronze. The country's pre-event goal was to finish third overall with 45-50 gold medals, but the medal tally fell short. It was 10 points behind Japan, which finished second with 52 gold medals. 19가이드03
