Badminton's Ahn Se-young wins her first women's singles gold in 29 years, facing arch-rival Chen Yuefei.

World No. 1 badminton women's singles player Ahn Se-young (21-Samsung Life Insurance) has found her final opponent. Ahn will take on world No. 3 Chen Yuefei (CHN) for the Asian Games gold medal.

Ahn Se-young defeated world No. 5 He Bingjiao (CHN) 2-0 (21-10 21-13) in the women's singles semifinals of the badminton at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games at Binjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China on Saturday.

Later in the day, Chen Yufei secured her place in the final with a 2-1 (18-21 21-10 21-8) victory over World No. 20 Aya Ohori (JPN). Ahn will go for her first Asian Games women's singles gold medal in the final against her arch-rival Chen Yufei on Sunday.

Chen Yufei is the reigning gold medalist in the women's singles at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Ahn holds a 7-10 head-to-head record against Chen Yufei.

However, the recent trend has been in Ahn's favor. She has won six of their eight meetings this year.

Ahn has already faced Chen Yufei in this tournament. She defeated her 2-0 (21-12 21-13) in the first game of the women's team event final on the first day of the tournament. It was a great win for her ahead of the women's singles.

Ahn cruised to the final with a dominant performance in the tournament. "I just want to be able to play my game well because I love playing the game," Ahn said after her semifinal match.

After leading the women's team to victory at the tournament, Ahn is aiming for a double. If Ahn also wins the women's singles title, she will become the first Korean badminton player to win a gold medal in the women's singles event in 29 years, 먹튀검증 since Hwang Soo-hyun at the 1994 Hiroshima Games.
