Becoming a surrogate mother is one of the greatest blessings you can bestow upon another family. Many of our families come to us with the hopes of starting or completing their own family after years of heartbreak and inability to do so on their own. A surrogate mother in this instance is the gestational carrier of an embryo created through IVF with either the intended family’s egg/sperm or donor egg/sperm or a combination of the two. Without the help of a surrogate mother achieving a healthy birth would not be possible for these deserving families.
- Who can become a surrogate? There are many qualifications needed for a future surrogate to meet before they can more forward with the process. Qualifications include:
- Have had a healthy pregnancy for a child you are raising
- Have had no preterm births for singletons
- Must be a non-smoker and live in a smoke-free environment
- Have a healthy BMI
- Must be between the ages of 21-39
- Must be financially stable
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must have reliable transportation
There are a few other qualifications to consider but these are the main factors you will want to review. It is important that you meet all of the above requirements before moving forward in the process otherwise; unfortunately it will not be a good fit.
One of the final pieces to review when considering a surrogate birth is financial compensation. While you should consider the non-monetary benefits to surrogacy we understand that you should be compensated very well financially. For a first time surrogate a singleton birth will receive $55,000 and twins will receive $65,000. However, an experienced surrogate can receive as much as $80,000 per birth. If you have any further questions about surrogacy qualifications or the process to becoming a surrogate our confidential team would be happy to assist.
Emotional Readiness
Becoming a surrogate is more than just meeting the physical qualifications—it’s a deeply emotional journey. Before taking the first steps, it’s important to evaluate your own emotional readiness and willingness to part with the baby after birth. While the child is not biologically yours, you will still experience the powerful emotions of pregnancy and birth. That’s why mental health support is a key part of our process. We ensure every potential surrogate has access to counseling and a support system to help navigate this life-changing experience.
Support from Loved Ones
Having the support of your partner, family, or close friends can make a huge difference during your surrogacy journey. From attending appointments to simply being there for you emotionally, having a reliable support system will help ease the process. If you’re married or in a relationship, your partner’s consent is also an essential part of the screening process. Surrogacy is a team effort, and having loved ones on board ensures a smoother, more joyful experience for everyone involved.
Medical and Psychological Screenings
After meeting the initial qualifications, every potential surrogate undergoes comprehensive medical and psychological screenings. These assessments are in place to ensure the safety of both the surrogate and the baby throughout the pregnancy. Medical screenings include blood work, ultrasounds, and fertility evaluations, while psychological screenings assess emotional well-being, preparedness, and mental health. This thorough process helps ensure a positive and healthy journey for all parties.
A Journey That Changes Lives
At the heart of surrogacy lies a beautiful truth—you are changing lives. Whether you are helping someone become a parent for the first time or completing a family that’s been waiting for years, your decision carries unimaginable impact. Surrogacy is an act of compassion, generosity, and strength. We are honored to support every woman who takes this selfless step forward and are here to guide you from your first inquiry to postpartum care and beyond.
Legal Protection and Agreements
Before any medical procedures begin, a legal agreement is created to protect both the surrogate and the intended parents. This contract outlines the surrogate’s responsibilities, medical care expectations, compensation, and the legal transfer of parentage after birth. Each party will have their own legal representation to ensure their rights and concerns are fully addressed. These agreements are a vital step in making sure everyone involved is on the same page and supported legally throughout the journey.
Lifelong Connection
Many surrogates and intended families form lasting bonds beyond the birth of the baby. Whether you choose to maintain a connection or not, the experience often creates a meaningful link that lasts a lifetime. Some surrogates receive heartfelt updates and pictures, while others are invited to share milestones in the child’s life. Every journey is unique, and we honor whatever level of communication and relationship feels right for you.
