As we approach November, that means only one of two things: it’s only 2 months till Christmas, and we can get our Christmas shopping done on black friday sales. Black Friday is a westernised, cohesive sale where every single store, shop and online retailer decides to put a sale on to get rid of as much current and old stock as possible just in time for Christmas. It’s a mutually beneficial exchange between consumers and businesses that sell goods and services.
With the development of online shopping over the last two decades, there have been leaps and bounds in this service, which is opening another avenue for retailers to sell as much stock as possible. However, that doesn’t mean people are avoiding the shopping centres in Leeds or London, but, in fact, are doing the best of both worlds.
If you are wondering from both sides of the spectrum how to improve your shopping and selling skills during this huge peak period, I’ve got all the tips and tricks of 2025 to share with you.
Reminders, Notifications and Newsletter Sign-Ups
While scrolling through social media or flicking through websites might be enough to alert you, with algorithm changes and unpredictability of when you will see their announcements, the one guarantee is that it could let you know exactly when the black friday sale is live, but could potentially offer you early access for signing up to their newsletters.
Signing up for early access offers, additional offers and so forth through newsletters is a great way to not miss any big deals but also keep you in the loop of when brands and companies you are hoping to catch have a one-off good deal, like a new TV.
Get There Early
This is an obvious one, but on the day of Black Friday, as early as the shopping centre will let you in to queue is exactly when you should be there. Black Friday shopping can get pretty crazy, but an early start to get some of the best bits first is a must. This is a reason why some people prefer to do their shopping online; however, it’s very common to get better deals in-store.
Create A Wishlist
During the craze of online checkouts, when you know stock is limited and the deals are too good to pass up. For a quick checkout, avoid scrolling and trying to find products you might like. Create a full wishlist before the sale is on, and as soon as that sale is live, you can just go straight to the wishlist, add to cart and checkout in 3 simple clicks. It’s a huge time saver and also means you can have more time beforehand deciding what exactly you want.
Creating a selection of maybes also means you can just pick and choose the best deals out of them all.
Save Up Now
I would personally start saving right now if you can, or really should have started saving a little bit in the Summer to make sure you aren’t cutting yourself short with a few deals.
While some brands hardly put a discount on, as they are not a sale brand and do very well throughout the year without a sale, which makes them much more reluctant to put more off. It has been a trend for brands to put a mere 20% off, which is pretty much an end-of-season sale.
Check Loyalty & Cash Back
Squeeze every bargain you can get and make sure you don’t forget to look at cashback and loyalty programmes that mean you have a much better chance of potentially doubling your savings in today's climate. It’s always something that you should keep a lookout for.
Return Policies
Be aware of your return policies, as when you bulk buy in a panic, you might mistakenly pick the wrong size or a bunch of stuff you just didn’t need and got carried away as you do during huge sales. You don’t want to overspend and then not be able to return; you will be down a lot of money right before Christmas, and is just a really stressful circumstance to be involved in.
It’s very common for online purchases to be able to be refunded with no issues; however, always check the returns on sale items, they can vary from retailer to retailer.
Final Thoughts
Overall, when you want to do Black Friday the right way, there are a few little tips and tricks you can do; just ensure that whether you are doing in-person or online shopping, you make things easier for yourself to avoid missing out.
