Corrective Measures is one of the strangest movies I've seen in a while, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It requires serious suspension of disbelief due to the crazy characters we see who are superpowered and for the most part utterly ridiculous looking. It is based on Grant Chastain's graphic novel of the same name.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't like this movie for what it is, but it is similar to The Boys in terms of a dark superhero story but is not as beautifully put together. There are regular, well-choreographed fight scenes as well as some respectable R-rated violence, including (my personal favourite) heads that explode! The majority of the characters are one-dimensional, and while the main character Diego Diaz (Brennan Mejia) is sympathetic, bland, and fails to make much of an impression. Even though Michael Rooker steals every scene in this film, Bruce Willis has a larger than anticipated role as The Lobe, one of his strangest roles to date. Although his cunning Overseer isn't particularly intelligent, he is ambitious and hungry and wants to grab The Lobe's money so he may retire in style. Tom Cavanagh, who plays Gordon, a.k.a. The Conductor, is another highlight. Although he seems to be having a good time, (spoiler alert) he is tragically killed off about the halfway point, and the film loses interest without him.
One can't help but sense that this leaves things up for prospective sequels, which I'm not sure I'd be interested in, for the too violent female security guard, but it never arrives. Though this movie would have been far more interesting if Payback, who is practically The Punisher, had been the primary character. I would watch a hypothetical spin-off starring him. I don't think I ever gave a damn about who lived or died since there were just too many characters for me to feel any genuine connection to anyone. Although Corrective Measures never gets dull, I believe it would work better if it kept the superhero aspect but maybe did away with the obtrusive prostheses.
Overall, Corrective Measures is available for free on Tubi, so at least you won't waste money watching it. If you tell me you don't like it, I'll totally understand since the sci-fi and fantasy elements will turn off many people, but I liked it for the regular fight scenes and violence. I would watch a spin-off that only focused on the character Payback in a heartbeat.
