The ancient religious place of Maharashtra state, which is known as Trimbakeshwar came to my notice. It is also known as Trimbakeshwar situated in a small town called Tryambak in Nashik district in Maharashtra state at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. It is basically a historical Hindu temple with Lord Shiva as the main deity and is said to be one of the twelve holy temples.
Jyotirlinga in the country. Situated just 28 km away from the city of Nashik, this city is the origin of the holy river Godavari which is the longest river in peninsular India. The holy river Godavari has its origin in the Brahmagiri mountain, and it merges with the sea at Rajahmundry. Although it originates from the mountains, Hindus believe it to be the origin of the river Kusavart. It is a pool which is considered by Hindus to be a very holy bathing place.

How the Name came from?

The name Trimbakeshwar (Trymbakeshwar) is derived from ‘Tryambak‘, which means the Lord who has three eyes. It is the site of Tri-Sandhya Gayatri, the birthplace of Lord Ganesha, and the site of the first Nath of the Nath sect. Simhastha Mahatmya mentions that Lord Rama had traveled to Trimbakeshwar. Trimbakeshwar is considered to be one of the most sacred places to perform Shradh. Nirnaya Sindhu mentions Trimbakeshwar as the place where the Sahyadri Mountains and the Godavari River are present, which purify the entire planet Earth.

Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga is extraordinary in many ways. It unites the three trinity: Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva. The lingam consists of three small, thumb-like lingams, each of which is a member of the Trimurti. They are swayambhu, or self-manifested. The three lingams are covered by a mask, usually of silver, on the face of the trinity. A gold mask is worn on special occasions, and a jewel crown is placed over it. The crown covered with precious gems dates back to the time of the Pandavas.

The structure of Shivlinga

Trimbakeshwar is the only Jyotirlinga where the Shivalinga sits in a depression on the floor, instead of projecting upwards. Consequently, the Trilingam is not worshiped in the sanctum sanctorum with abhishekam in the usual manner. Here, only the lower part of the Tej Pathar (Ukhli), is a depression in which three lingams sit. A continuous stream of natural water flows over Mahesh's linga. It is said that sometimes flames come out of the lingam depression, along with a rumbling sound.

According to Shiva Purana, Lord Shiva agreed to reside here and assumed the famous name Trimbakeshwar due to a serious request from Godavari, Gautam Rishi and other deities. Interestingly, the local people here call the river as Godavari and not Ganga. All the heavenly gods promised to come to Nashik once in twelve years, when Jupiter remains in Leo. On this a grand fair is organized at this place. Devotees take a holy bath in the Gautami Ganga and then seek the blessings of Trimbakeshwar.

Hindu religion in trimbakeshwar

The site of the first Nath of the Nath sect which includes Gorakhnath and others, a place where Nivrittinath was built by his guru Gahininath to imbibe the sacred knowledge, a place where Nivrittinath taught himself to his brothers and sister through his teachings. Received.
It is the holiest place for performing Shradh ceremonies like Narayan Nagbali according to Nirnaya Sindhu – a religious book of Hindus.

The sacred tree of this temple is the Jack tree. The holy water of this temple is nearby. The Agam or Puja of this temple is called Kamayam. This temple in this area is about 2000-3000 years old. The historical name of this place is Trimbak.

Story of Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga

There are two stories associated with Trimbakeshwar. According to Padma Purana, there is a story about Simhastha Parva.

Centuries ago, gods and goddesses used to roam in India. He helped the saints and people living here in times of various hardships, especially the demons who were causing trouble. However, this battle generally inflicted heavy damage on both the gods and the demons. It was decided to settle the issue of supremacy forever. They agreed that whoever captures the Amritkumbh (immortal nectar) will be the winner. There was an Amritkumbh (a pot containing immortal nectar) on the ocean floor.

The gods succeeded in getting the nectar by fooling the demons. When the demons came to know of this, they started a violent fight for Amritkumbh (immortal nectar). In this sequence, drops of nectar fell at four places – Haridwar, Prayag, Ujjain and Trimbakeshwar. Trimbakeshwar is one of the four places where the drops of heavenly nectar fell. At that time the Guru had entered the hemisphere of the planet Singh. And as this planet enters the hemisphere once in 12 years, Kumbh Mela is organized once in 12 years in the respective regions.
