Donny van de Beek opens up on Man Utd nightmare and admits life was 'tough'
Manchester United have moved on Donny van de Beek following his dismal few years at Old Trafford, and Sergio Reguilon has returned to Tottenham too, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka's contract has been extended
Donny van de Beek admits life was tough for him at Manchester United – but the Red Devils reject is convinced he can revive his career following a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Netherlands international has joined the Bundesliga outfit until the end of the season, with a view to making the move permanent in a £13m deal. Van de Beek, 26, made just six Premier League starts after joining United from Ajax in 2020 for £35m.
He is now determined to secure a regular football again and wants to cement his place in the Dutch squad for this summer's Euros. Van de Beek said: "If you don't pay as many games as you want, it's tough.
Sky Sports is bringing you 500 live football games to watch, as well access to Cricket, Golf, F1, Boxing, NFL, NBA and more across eight dedicated channels. Sky Sports is the only way to watch all the action this year.
"But that's the past now. I'm here now and I'm positive, which is the most important thing, because things can change. I'm looking forward now. I had a good chat with the coach and the way he sees football, that convinced me and I had a good feeling about it.
"Every player has their own personal goals, but I'm here to help the team and play at my highest level. I'm convinced Frankfurt is a good place for me right now."
Meanwhile, United have taken up the option of activating a 12-month extension to Aaron Wan-Bissaka's contract. It means the full-back will remain at Old Trafford until June 2025.
And during that time, United bosses are expected to hold talks with the defender about a new and improved long-term deal. If United hadn't triggered the 12-month extension, Wan-Bissaka would have been able to open talks with foreign clubs this month.
United signed Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace in a £50m deal in 2019. At the time, United said he had been chosen ahead of 800 right-backs the club had also studied.

United activated a break clause the loan agreement, having signed the defender on a short-term deal in September.
And Reguilon insists there are no hard feelings towards United, despite him making just 12 appearances in all competitions. He said: "It has been great to play for Manchester United and I just want to say thank you to the club, the fans and my team-mates. It was a privilege to play for this huge club and I wish all the best for the Red Devils."
