EXPLAINING THE “BEST” WILDFIRE HAND TOOLS ON EARTH

This is a house set in wild fuels.  Large leave trees have been thinned to isolate them with plenty of space between them.  The lower branches pruned of all ladder fuels to separate aerial fuels from ground fuels, and all clutter, brush removed from between leaves trees.  3 circular, meandering control lines separate ground fuels.  They are 2’-3’ wide except the one around the foundation that should be a stone patio 8’-10’ wide.  This is arranged to be black-lined

ABOUT OUR TOOLS

Dragonslayers, UNIVERSAL BEST WILDFIRE TOOL KIT: $750 , 12 LBS. (tough enough to last an entire career)

Dragonslayers was awarded SBIR Grants from the USDA to develop better, safer fire tools for all 5 federal wildfire agencies.  These new tools make each fire fighter 3 times safer, 3 times more versatile, and 3 times more productive/effective on all vegetation fires, (any-where on earth).  Our new tools are designed to take one primary tool head and one secondary tool head along with a universal handle into any regional fuel type.  The total weight would be 8 lbs.  Our tool parts are stowable in fire packs or travel bags.  Mobilized fire fighters can bring their own tools on commercial airplanes; always with tools; much safer, especially around helicopters, which do not mix well with long handled, fixed tools.

BELOW ARE OLD, SINGLE FUNCTION TOOLS, THAT NEEDED LONG AWAITED IMPROVEMENTS

EXPLAINING THE “BEST” WILDFIRE HAND TOOLS ON EARTH

Dragonslayers, tools save millions in labor costs.  Each fire fighter armed with better quality tools, has greater versatility & responsiveness; to quickly address all the changing chores on any fire.  A (factory direct) supply scheme, straight from Dragonslayers saves millions more in logistics by eliminating government need for GSA & DLA Warehouses & supply system with lousy tools. All the many ordeals of so many annual bids for each tool.  Endless Admin, handling, shipping awkward space filling loads from manufacturers to warehouses, then re-shipping to fire caches, then re-shipping fire camps and out stations.  Finally, to end users.  A waste of time and money to use obsolete, single function tools.  There just are not any good fire tools to be had anywhere else on earth.  Dragonslayers tools are the future.  Light weight, ergonomic, balanced, versatile, stowable, plus pay for themselves.  Last forever.

DRAGONSLAYERS UNIVERSAL HANDLE:  37” long, 2 lbs., Cost $195.  Central, heart and soul of our higher technology system   Made of Hickory.  Large, oval, mass of wood at the flared, bell housing collar, where the Aluminum CNC fitting meets the wood; lends great shear strength, which was a common ill with the ½” thick Pulaski handle.  Shock absorbing hickory is the best material for striking tool handles.  The cell structure of the wood buffers shock into the user’s body, as does the rubber washer on the collar.  The metal fitting is epoxied onto the wood, then a roll pin secures collar from ever sliding off the wood.  The handle has large square threads and a spring-loaded locking pin, that snap-locks all tool heads onto the handle.  This solid lock-up gives the tool its great responsiveness, and versatility to arm the modern fire fighter with the right tool for all the changing chores, on any given wildfire.

MAGNUM PULASKI: 3 lbs., $260. The better Super Pulaski that advanced an Icon Western fire tool. It’s Balanced, center of mass, where handle goes. (Safer).  A Traditional Pulaski is out of balance with only a 3” grub-hoe.  When, attached to Universal Handle, ours weighs exactly the same as a regular Pulaski, but it’s grub-hoe is 3” wider: handle 3” longer, but feels lighter because of its balance.  The head can never slip off its handle, because of its spring loaded locking pin.  It is a, “Forever Pulaski”, blades are replaceble, when they wear down.  We have Shot crews with 9 blade changes, & can go another 9 or 20.  You only use this Maggi-P, when a cutting tool is needed.  Maggi-P, is now a secondary tool head.  Axe blade exposure is less; as the, Troop Tool, now becomes the main Primary, fire tool head.  The Troop Tool gets users even more upright on line scraping, and takes bent back drudgery out of mop-up operations.  2, stainless screws stored in elastic webbing of blade guard for making a emergency handle.

TROOP TOOL: 3 lbs. $260. This is a full-sized Combi Tool.  It is the perfect primary fire tool for  Temperate Forests, Conifer Western or Deciduous Hardwoods in the East.  There is a smooth, push button, locking mechanism, that allows the user to lock securely the choice of 3 basic blade sets.  Top picture, 90 degree blade set: forms a better McLeod, line scrapper. The curved blade slices ground cover at a more effective angle.  Used as a fire rake in Deciduous forests, where fire line is simply raking leaves, the high back shovel blade pulls a huge swath far better than the Council fire rake.  Used in the same right angle blade set; (only having the shovel tip hit the ground), there forms the first ever, stand erect, greatest chinking, mixing, mop-up device.  In its folded back, against its staff mode; it serves as the first ever safety staff. For walking fire line at night or eliminating falls on steep, slippery or bad ground.  Trail the back blade against the hill to keep upright. If you slip, lean back on the handle.  Back of blade is your break mechanism.  Diagonal blade set is for digging & throwing dirt, as an instant, angled fire shovel.  Plus, she breaks down and folds flat in travel bag.  Overhead can always have their favorite tool with them on fire assignment.  The Troop Tool is the “Best”, primary fire tool for sure, because it’s so versatile.  When you carry a 3 lb.  Maggi, it’s a perfect set up.

TONY PAD DRAGON SWATTER TOP FOR ARCTIC TAIGA, TUNDRA & TROPIC DRY SWAMPS; HANDLE SHOWS 7’ scale, LONG STRAP DRAGON SWATTER BEST FOR TEMPERATE, TOUGH TURF GRASSLANDS TO PLOW THROUGH BRUSH & MOLD IN AROUND ROCKS. $195, 3+lbs.

EXPLAINING THE “BEST” WILDFIRE HAND TOOLS ON EARTH

BONNIE HAMMER: $195, 4 lbs. This is a Swamper’s Tool.  It is a forged in America, steel hammer for driving felling wedges.  it has a grub-hoe on it, so it’s user can scrape line, when not actually pulling brush, or driving felling wedges.  Hot Shot crews now carry 4 chain saws.  Each sawyer has a side kick, (called a swamper), who helps carrying gas and oil, and is a vital part of the saw team.  This tool head must be detached from its Aluminum handle fitting after use in the field.  Then dried and re-coated with a lube grease, so that it does not rust.  If it is left attached to its handle and rusts; it may bind with flakes of rust and be difficult to detach.  The BLM Bonneville Hot Shots out of Salt City, cut the axe blade off one of our Magnum Pulaski tool heads and welded a bar of steel to the shortened, squared off axe blade.  It worked for a season or two then the striking impacts of hammering the wedges just started to cause the blade to loosen just a bit.  We tried all kinds of fixes till finally they asked Dragonslayers to make a Slam Hammer out of all steel.  We tried casting them then realize the cast steel blades were chipping too much, so we lucked out and found an American Forging Company to build us the right tooling, and cut a pound off its weight and although expensive it is a great tool for the wildfire industry folks.  So, we gave the device a name to honor the good idea, that those Hot Shot guys came up with.

                                                ABOUT SURVIVAL & MITIGATION

Arguments for an Incident Command System for Universal Wildfire Survival & Mitigation Scheme.

Three years ago the U.S. Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee held a meeting with our federal wildfire protection agency reps. To announce they had Billions to help address what had to be done to better address a, “FIX”, or solution to our protection systems to stop or lesson the loss of so many people and their homes from these new Climate Change Fire Storms that were taking out over 20,000 homes annually and threatening so many people.  Before they just handed out the funds they wanted to know if they knew what had to be done.  The various representative.  The Fire agency reps. Were not able to convince the Senate, they had a clear plan or route to fix the ability to eliminate the loss from fire storms too strong to fight and stop.

So the Senate formed a Three Chair, 50 person group to study and come up with a simple, safe, doable, scheme, to address better protect people and property from these fire storms too strong to fight and stop.  The three Chairs were President Biden’s USDA Secretary, DOI Secretary, DHS & FEMA Rep.  This Group was called:”Wildfire Mitigation and Fire Management Committee”.  They worked hard for over a year and produced a Final Report.  It was scholarly, but did not come up with a doable, safe, Scheme of what to do other than 125 or so suggestions that would actuallyu go beyond thinning and pruning the forests and adding more prescribed fire to make forests more healthy again, which was what the prior group of experts fronted.

Dragonslayers suggested a simple, safe, doable, scheme.  To be fair the committee submitted Dragonslayers suggestion to the National Wildfire Coordination Group(NWCG) through the Equipment Technology Committee (ETC) at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho.

Robert Nathan Hesse rejected the concept of A Universal Wildfire Blueprint being set around any Critical Site to prepare the site to be ready to be instantly converted into  “A Black Safety Harbor Area”, by fire fighters or (if they can’t get there), home owners doing a trained, Black-line, ignition of all wild light fuels against 3 circular control lines, set in around what is to survive a fast approaching fire storm.

The small, plastic, training and remember guide.  The “DRAGON WIZZ WHEEL, shows the mitigator, exactly  where to lay strips of fire along the upwind sides of the circular control lines.  There is a clear plastic disk with a wind direction arrow on it.  There are two red dots in semi-circles attached to the wind arrow on the clear disk that turns with the wind arrow on a rivet located at the center of what is to be saved.  All one does is aline the on site wind direction with the wind arrow and red dots shjow the user where to lay the fire to blow into the fire line

I’m sure Mr. Hesse understands how to squirt water, scrape fire line and how the Incident Command System works.

What he does not understand is anything about how to mitigate a fire too strong and fast moving to suppress before it roles over a critical site.  He has not been trained in what the Smokejumpers called the Black Donut of Death.  He says, The Wizz Wheel does not answer practical implementation and effectiveness in dynamic and rapidly changing fire conditions. Or its useability in various terrains under different wind and fire behavior scenarios.  Concerns are raised regarding the potential complexity and adaptability of the proposed method in high-intensity wildfire situations.

All I can say to Mr. Hesse is all of his concerns are addressed in simply being trained in the practical real use.  If Mr. Hesse could actually use the “Dragon Wizz Wheel”, in a real world test case house set in heavy light fuels, with real on site winds and simply use the dragon wizz wheel to determine where to lay fire from a fire rising device, and gain real world experience rather than just using his imagination to try and export an opinion on something he has never tried doing.

This Black Donut Blueprint for Survival; used in conjunction with a “Dragon Wizz Wheel Training & Remember Guide” & a self starting plumbers propane torch, really does allow any person with common sense and one time practical training with fire in hand…..to control the flame lengths inside 3 circular control lines, in any strength of wind, and or changing wind conditions with extreme drought conditions.

It is the case of the wise leader arranging the Battle Space, so that the battle is already won long before the fight begins.  Additionally, the troops do not have to be stressed, or even fight hard to win.

People who have not used this system, but pass judgement, do not know enough to realize that they present a missed opportunity to remain silent and not divulge exactly their ignorance of the subject.

Fire fighters can no longer do it alone.  They are only presently good at the easy fires.  For the new Killer Climate Intensity fires they need help from those who live in the fuels to prepare for everyone to create instant Black.  Always be ready to endure a fire storm coming from any direction at any time.  For single structure you need 15 minutes.  For a small town an hour.

ALL FIRE MANAGEMENT BEGINS AT THE CRITICAL SITE, AND MOVES OUTWARD FROM THERE

Always convert wild vegetation around a critical site into a managed light fuel complex. Expect a fire storm to come from any direction.  Create shaded fuel break, savannah or “Defensible Space”.  Big trees, well spaced, 25’ between crowns, not trunks.  Prune all ladder  fuels off tree trunks to separate aerial fuels from ground fuels.  Leave no clutter, kindling, between heavy, best, straight leave trees.   Just open, dry-brown grass or leaf cover between isolated, heavy fuels.  Build 3 concentric, circular, Dragon Rings around house or town.  Your Universal Blueprint is set up for the high technique of calmly, safely, using strategic fire to systematically burn off all calories just before a firestorm arrives.

EXPLAINING THE “BEST” WILDFIRE HAND TOOLS ON EARTH

Climate change,  more people and houses built out into wild fuels has created a new reality.

THIS BASIC BLUEPRINT ALLOWS INSTANT, UNIVERSAL, FORMATION OF LIFE SAVING BLACK-SPACE.

Fire-fighters in trouble, & in unburned fuels, (SAY, a fire hooks around them or a wind shear blasts an unknown spot fire, right at them).   Their first move is to try, to get into the BLACK.  A place, where the fire has already consumed the calories.  The above blueprint symbol simply prepares the area around what you want to survive so you can instantly create Black-space devoid of calories.

The beauty of circular control lines is the wind is always blowing in the right direction for a perfectly controlled Black-Line operation.  All this Universal Blueprint idea is,  “IS”, thinking ahead defensively, so that home owners, and fire fighters have always got an option to revert to; if things go really bad and the fire storm can’t be put out before it passes over the critical site.

By doing pre-work, pre-training, and live fire practice, using a “DRAGON WIZZ WHEEL” & FIRE-RAISING TOOLS, Like a self-starting, propane, plumber’s torch; you save time.    Everything is all set to convert a Universal Blueprint can be instantly converted into a BLACK, “SAFETY HARBOR AREA”.  For A HOME IT TAKES 15 MINUTES, a small town, a half hour.   Increased fire dangers now require different methods.  “Defensible Space”, Alone is worthless.  In extreme conditions, Fire moves fastest in light fuels, like grass. Light fuels carry fire fastest of all wild fuels This destroys and kills people & homes quicker.

If you learn the proper technique you can use wind, drought, & fire to in fact better save life and property in an emergency.  In fact the stronger the fire conditions; the faster & safer it works.

Wildfire Agencies can’t do it alone anymore.  They need help.  They cannot establish, and set in the Universal Blueprint.  What they can do if trained; is recognize the Blueprint, and use it to save it.

The land owners have to actually take responsibility to set in the shaping of the “BATTLE SPACE”.  It is the land owner who owns the land, and has the toughest part of making this new Mitigation Procedure possible.  The property owner has to do the work, and the maintenance so, that the Blueprint is recognizable, and usable.  However, the land owner, has to be practiced and fully capable of Black-Lining the Blueprint in the event the suppression forces can’t get there.

in order to learn new skills of Mitigation.  (A procedure to revert to), when suppression will obviously fail.  Remote homesteads and towns are going to have to do the majority, of the costly, labor-intensive landscaping to create a Universally Recognizable cauldron around, what they want to protect.  But, both fire fighters and interface dwellers will have to start on an equal foot.  That is to Learn how to ignite, 3 circular control lines around what is to survive.  Fire fighters know how to squirt water, and dig line, but that is all they know.  They are as ignorant about mitigation as house wives.  In order to advance survival; both groups have to adapt, change, into a new survival procedure to eliminate loss.

Our present system of response now; only works on the easy fires.  Wack-A-Mole suppression has to be augmented.  A Universal Mitigation Strategic Doctrine needs to be adopted and implemented by all citizens who live in wild fuels.  It also has to be adopted by all federal, state, local fire departments, all state insurance commissioners, all county planning-building departments.  Anything less than this is not cohesive, and not aggressive enough for the coming homeland security and climate intensification challenges for our future.  The ability to become comfortable and effective on stronger-faster wildfires is simply logical and reasonable to get to a Universally trained wildfire adapted society.

Two things that first responders can’t bring to the incident are: TIME and SPACE.  It is too late to start dropping trees, and put in fire line around what is to be protected, when the Dragon is at the back door.  Then burn off all the calories just before the firestorm rolls over your critical site.

Reality is; there are just too many houses out there.  Never will there be enough fire trucks and fire- fighting resources.  The standard deal is 4 engines per house.  Also, get this: Fire leaders are not going to put their people in front of a full on, galloping fire storm.

We are good and gallant at the easy and medium intensity fires, but this new era of fire speed and killer power is producing evacuation only responses.  The sad truth is, what we are doing is not working more and more often.  With this simple safe system; we can save time, space, everything.

A ready set up, to instantly convert all, CRITICAL SITES, into a, “SAFETY HARBOR AREA”, has been developed.  It is, a UNIVERSALLY RECOGNISABLE, FAMILIAR, WELL PRACTICED, & PROVEN SCHEME.

Done right, and practiced; troops do not have to fight hard to win.  No one is ever endangered.  A simple, systematic, and effective way to get back to being effective at protecting life and property.

We have to have something besides evacuation.  High winds knocking down trees across roads.  Tiny rural roads choked with too many people trying to flee; gets deadly by fast changing conditions.

People who live in the wild fuels, (interface dwellers), need to become wildfire adapted creatures; who have earned the right to survive.  They have to be able to save themselves; if fire fighters can’t get there.  They have to be able to manipulate events to save family/home from these killer fire storms.  They have to become wildfire adapted creatures or they will end up on the wrong side of Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest.

Homeowners have to be the ones to do all the work converting natural fuels into a very specific, well managed blueprints.  “SHAPING THE BATTLE SPACE”, in a 360 military, defensive position.  It is a Universal Blueprint; always ready to receive the enemy Dragon of the wild places.  Always prepared to give fire fighters an option to revert to; in order to save your structure, and their own lives.

It is no longer a fire-fighting matter.  It is now a HOMELAND SECURITY, and even a, MILITARY DEFENSE, issue. Climate Change has set us up as targets of opportunity.

With our open borders, and so many strange unknown people entering our free society.  The very nature of our enemies, create an underbelly of vulnerability.  There is now an open invitation for our enemies to exploit and use the power of nature to attack and destroy entire regions of our country.  This can be done very cheaply, and with no return address. No casualties need be sustained on their part.

For these reasons alone we need to gear up for the worse-case scenario.  We owe it to give each citizen the ability to save themselves from an enemy, aerial fire attack.  If it never comes, ( great)!  This mitigation method will serve us well against natural, (lightning), and accidental ignitions during red flag wildfire conditions.  Look we have to do something besides allowing fire storms to keep rolling through our people and critical sites.  Consider the following actually unfolding:

A handful of enemy agents enter America.  Quietly amass, and build a fleet of small ultralight aircraft.

They simply lay in wait for the right drought conditions to line up with strong regional winds.  Then preferably at night, they launch.  They lay out a pattern of ignition starts every quarter mile, all perpendicular to those strong winds for hundreds of miles.  By morning we’ll realize what was orchestrated against us, as a wall of flames hundreds of miles long; gobbles across the terrain.

We have nothing that is ready to deal with that.  It would be cheap to do.  Would have no return address attached to it, and the effects would be far more destructive than any nuke, dirty bomb, explosive devices or terrorist mall shootings.

The Dragonslayers argument for this Wildfire Mitigation Scheme is that, this simple Universal Blueprint; Sets up the society for an opportunity for individual homeowners to survive super-fast, killer, natural wildfire events, accidental wildfire mistakes, and the possibility of intentional arson attacks, that evil doers among us just might unfold upon us.  Better to be prepared and ready.

Actually, civilian home owners are easier to train, because they don’t suffer from thinking they know everything about fire.  So many fire fighters, carry imagination baggage.  Water squirters and line diggers can develop a certain degree of arrogance from years of typical suppression successes earned on regular hum drum easy fires.  Problem being they have not learned much, from all the deadly single ignition starts, that have unfolded into tragic events.  A Universal Mitigation Scheme, It is time for it.

It will take the combined energy and power of all those who live in the fuels to set up their holdings, so that the fire fighters have time to do what is needed to convert the, “UNIVERSAL BLUEPRINT”, into an instant, “SAFETY HARBOR AREA”, or a large black donut around what is to preside.

Then, as back-up, all home owners know how to do what has to be done regarding consuming the calories that lay between home and fast approaching fire storm.  (Remember at this stage of our suppression system, fire fighters do not know how to do this new procedure).  But they know this.

TWO BASIC CONCEPTS – INSTINCTS - THAT ALL WILDFIRE FIRE FIGHTERS LIVE BY

  1. First basic fact of life is the old saying: “The only complete and good fire line, is black-line”.  When fires are fought sometimes you can dig direct line which is right beside the flames.  Then the fire can’t go across the mineral soil fire line, because there is no fuel or flame lengths to go across the line.  This is called direct line.  Fire fighters usually start putting in line at the tail of the fire, where the origin or least active part of the fire is located.  Fire fighters usually split their forces, there at an anchor point.  Then each crew heads up a flank digging line.  Typically one flank is hotter and has bigger flames, and they keep getting bigger or longer as you proceed up to the most active part of the fire which is called the Head of the fire.

The side of the fire that is hotter is uncomfortable because of the heat, so you cannot dig direct line.  In this situation they back away from the heat and put in what they call indirect line.  They do a little computer in the mind thing, and diagonally dig line, always staying a comfortable distance from the flames.  The last person coming up the trail lays fire beside the line.  The just started flames blow into the newly created fire line.  The strips of fire along the line burns up all the calories in the unburned ground cover.  This strengthens the line, so that when the flames come from the main fire; those active flames run into burned ground and have no fuel to continue its march.  The oncoming flames wane and the line holds.  That is BLACK-LINEING.

  1. The Second fact of life is the Battle Cry: “Get into the BLACK”.  If a fire hooks around or suddenly, (due to a wind change in direction), and power or a spot fire, that no one knew about, suddenly comes at you, and you are in unburned fuels.  Your sole responsibility becomes to try to get into ground that has already been burned.  For survival, that is your best option.

THE BLUEPRINT SET-UP

This Universal Wildfire Blueprint was developed in the Arctic on four different National Wildlife Refuges in Alaska.  Some 17 different U.S. Government Structures were set up as test cases.  BLM and USFS Smokejumpers parachuted in to do all the thinning, pruning and digging in of the circular control lines.  Native Athabaskan villagers from Huslia, and Houghs were also part of the preparation and work in the true wilderness of the huge Koyukuk National Wildlife Refuge, which was as big as the state of New Jersey.  The other huge Refuges that we used this method on were The Innoko, the Selawick, The Nowitna, and The Kanuti National Wildlife Refuges.

The jumpers loved jumping in on these projects, and we always had moose and bear for them to roast over our camp fires and enjoy the wildest of our spectacular wild places.

The Jumpers referred to these projects as, “THE BLACK DONUT OF DEATH” , PROJECTS.  U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service paid for the Athabaskan players, but the BLM footed the bill for all the jumpers.

The grand scheme of things, was to get the various villages, that were private Native inholdings, inside the huge Refuges; to adopt and set in these Universal Blueprints around all their little settlements.

Climate Change really first showed up in the Arctic.  We would follow thunder storms and watch lightning hit the ground from the jumper aircraft and watch the fire start.  We would jump an entire DC-3 load of 12 to 16 jumpers immediately on the fire, but sometimes the conditions were too strong and nothing could stop the fire.

In Alaska they had a Fire Management Plan, but really it was not that at all, it was a suppression plan.  It was good that the wilderness was so vast as seldom did a fire threaten a village, but it was obvious, that luck would eventually run out and they would have to start doing what was necessary to receive and parry the unstoppable firestorms, that would eventually threaten the villages

It was obvious the lower 48 states were getting plenty of warning orders and hints, that this fire storm thing was going to happen down throughout the much more populated states.  No one listened for over twenty years, but hopefully someone in a leadership position will in fact wake up and figure it out that we need an entirely new aspect in fire management.  The science of pre-suppression Mitigation needs to be born and added to our way of life.  A common new habit to live by.

Dragonslayers is trying to contribute this concept in order that so many rural homesteads and towns do not have to be destroyed: Please hear our plea, something has to be done or the losses will go on.

A STRATEGIC WILDFIRE SURVIVAL & MITIGATION DOCTRINE.

DRAGONSLAYERS developed a small plastic tool called a, “DRAGON WIZZ WHEEL”.  This device has a baseboard with a small house, and a prepared cauldron, of 3 circular control lines, (DRAGON RINGS), set in around the item you want to save.  The entire area around the little house has a shaded fuel break or Svanna in between those 3 circular control lines or Dragon Rings.

There is a clear plastic disk riveted to the base board in such a way, that it can spin on that rivet located atop the front of the little house.  The clear disk has a wind arrow, and two semi-circles of fire are attached to that wind arrow.

The beauty of circular DRAGON RINGS is the wind is always blowing in the right direction to burn off the ground cover right in front of the Dragon Rings.  All you have to do is stand in front of the little house in the real world.  Hold the, DRAGON WIZZ WHEEL, on the horizontal in front of yourself, then line up the wind arrow in harmony with the on-site wind.  The semi-circles of fire attached to the wind arrow, shows the user, exactly where to lay the tiny strip of fire in front of the Dragon Rings so that the small flames blow into the control lines and go out.  In this way the fire fighter or the home owner always controls the flame lengths no matter the strength of the conditions.

Forests areas immediately around a lone homestead or a town of closely huddled homes; need to be converted into a shaded fuel break or savanna.  Heavy fuels like big trees need to be thinned so there is at least 25 feet between the crowns of the trees not the tree trunks.  All the ladder fuels need to be pruned to separate aerial fuels from ground fuels.  This has to be done up a minimum of 10’.

80 percent of all structures destroyed in firestorms are not in thick congested forests.  They are often in intensively managed forests with reasonable levels of, “DEFENSIBLE SPACE”.  Defensible Space is a start and works well, when you have lots of fire trucks handy, and fire-fighting resources on medium intensity fires.  However, on extreme fire storms Defensible Space leaves too many calories in the ground fuels, that (GRASS) actually carries fire the fastest to destroy things quicker.

In many pictures of destroyed homes you see the hulks of black logs and metal roofs at times, but often crowns of pruned conifer trees still green, and very much not damaged.  In those Eastern Deciduous Forests where there are no leaves on the trees, but rather all fluffy like that carry the fires surprisingly strongly and so fast. and was the grass and sometimes close in shrubs that carried the fire and embers up to the structure.

Since we can’t stop the killer fire storm headed toward our home or town; what we have to do is set in circular control lines around what we want to protect.  We have to do what fire fighters do when they are in obvious danger.  They get to the Black.  What owe to ourselves is to learn from the lessons of the dead and learn how to create instant Black just before the firestorm arrives, and you do it safely and systematically.

TAKE COMMAND OF YOUR HOLDINGS EARN YOUR OWN SURVIVAL

The attitude has to be, “MY HOME, MY LAND, MY RESPONSIBILITY”.  The goal here is to earn your right to survive.  Actually, Both fire fighters & interface dwellers need to grow into a wildfire adapted species.  Be on Darwin’s positive theory side of it all.

Fire Suppression agencies do not presently know how to deal with extreme wildfire storms.  Neither do the people who live in wild fuels.  Climate Change has changed everything.  We all have to learn new skills, responsibilities.

We cannot keep doing what we are doing, because it is not working.  Finally, a mitigation procedure that allows a, “UNIVERSAL BLUEPRINT & SCHEME”. to parry extreme fire storms, make them pass and do no harm.  We do well on easy, common sense fires, but not good on the serious, extreme, killer fires that seem to coming with higher drought codes and stronger winds with climate intensification.

THE DRAGON WIZZ WHEEL:  A TRAINING AND REMEMBER GUIDE

In the picture of the dragon wiss wheel below:  The fire storm is coming from the lower left hand corner of the picture.  Note how the wind arrow lines up in harmony with the wind on site driving the fire.

The red dots show where to lay your drips of fire to blow into the dragon rings.

To use Dragon Wizz Wheel stand in front of structure in real world.  Lay plastic Wizz Wheel on the horizontal.  Then turn the clear disk with the wind arrow, so that it is in harmony with the on site winds. The red dots show the trained mitigator where to lay fire from a self-starting propane torch or a drip torch. The just started flames blow into the Dragon Ring circular control line.  This basically increases the size of the control line.  Ignite both semi-circle red lines as fast as you can.  Flames should burn into wind, but you can strip off or bite off more unburned ground until both semi-circles of fire meet each other and form the first Black Donut.

Next, go up to the upwind side of the Dragon Ring that encircles the home.  Lay fire right against that Circular Dragon Ring around the house.  Then burn all the grass and leaf litter until the entire area around the structure you want to survive is set in a huge Black Spot.

Firefighters and home owners, (BOTH), must be able and practiced in being able to black-line all Dragon Rings set in on the Universal Blueprint.  Black-lining fire line is the first skill in the basics of fire-fighting.  This is so, because fire fighters may not be able to get there.  The interface dweller just has to be able to save their own home.  Every citizen must become a Climate Change Wildfire adapted survivor.  Black-lining in a 360 circled dragon ring is not a back burn, nor a prescribed fire.  There is no window of limitations on wind speeds or drought codes.  The Scheme of mechanics was developed to work fastest and best under the worst red flag conditions or emergency / survival conditions.

This Universal Wildfire Survival/Mitigation Scheme is the option to be reverted to for static positions & for people, when firestorms are too strong and fast moving to fight and stop before they roll over People and critical sites.  This is a way to offer creation of instant BLACK SPACE, to those who prepared to Survive because they earned it.

The two pictures below show a couple of training pictures of Spanish Fire Fighters going through a Dragonslayers outdoor, “fire in hand training”, with Dragon Wizz Wheel.  There were 40 students.  Each person had their own little training house.  We had 20 MPH winds.  First house we simply ignited the dry straw up wind.  Flames quickly grew to 6’ flame lengths and burned the first house down.

After a hour classroom of explaining the theory, and use of the Dragon Wizz Wheel we went outside.  The fuels and conditions the same as the first house that was destroyed.

The mission was to burn all the same fuels only spare and save the vulnerable paper house.  We did not lose any of the 40 houses.

Some were Forestry Students no fire experience.  Their imaginations told themselves this was not going to work.  In the end all became believers they could apply same concept to real homes.

The actual use of fire in hand with the Dragon Wizz Wheel in hand actually showing, where in relation to the wind, to lay the fire.  One use and everyone becomes a confident user of this procedure.

Those people who have never been trained and actually used the training and  Wizz Wheel, can have no real experience black-lining 3 concentric Dragon Rings, have zero credibility to speak about this method.  It sounds too risky with their imaginations kicking in to build a case about not letting everyone do this.  What we are saying only those trained and have done this procedure are qualified to do it.  Most all fire fighters are harder to train than housewives, because they don’t know how to do this, and if they are afraid they cannot think a house wife or a teenage kid can do it, but if trained they can in fact save their own lives and the home they live in.

Below, pictures of Spanish fire-fighters and Forestry students doing practice Black-lining in Europe to save homes against Terrorist Spawned Wildfires.  Note the vulnerable houses, the heavy light fuels, and the one foot wide dragon Rings in 20 mile an hour winds.  All you really need to know is how to follow the red dots on the Dragon Wizz Wheel, and you can save a very vulnerable Critical Site.
