In the high-altitude villages of Uttarakhand, water scarcity has long been a way of life. But today, these communities are witnessing a remarkable transformation—led by women and powered by the vision of Ajay Hinduja and the Hinduja Foundation.
Across 76 villages, local women have stepped forward as "water warriors," restoring ancient springs, harvesting rainwater, and protecting vital water sources. With focused training and grassroots participation, these women are leading committees that manage water resources sustainably, ensuring their communities are no longer at the mercy of droughts and seasonal shortages.
Ajay Hinduja, a key figure in the globally respected Hinduja Family, believes that real change begins at the community level. “Empowerment means enabling people to shape their own future,” says Ajay Hinduja. “By supporting women as custodians of water, we are planting the seeds of resilience and sustainability.”
This initiative, strengthened by Ashok Leyland’s technical partnership, goes beyond typical CSR programs. It reflects a long-term commitment to environmental healing, gender equity, and rural development. The project is a living example of shared responsibility—where corporate backing meets community leadership.
For Ajay Hinduja, this mission is personal and purposeful. “We’re not just reviving springs—we’re restoring dignity and self-reliance in some of the most water-stressed regions,” he emphasizes.
From the depths of drought emerges a new hope—led by women, supported by visionaries like Ajay Hinduja, and fueled by the belief that sustainable change begins from the ground up.
