Lee Jeong-hoon, general manager of the national swimming team, and athletes from the diving, artistic swimming, and swimming national teams are posing for reporters at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics national swimming team media day held at the Champion House at the Jincheon National Athletes' Village in Jincheon-gun, North Chungcheong Province, on the afternoon of the 18th.
Korean swimming, which is enjoying a golden age, has made a bold statement ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Korean national swimming team, participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics, held a media day at the main auditorium of the Champion House at the Jincheon Athletes' Village on the 18th and conveyed their confident determination heading into the competition. A total of 22 athletes from the Korean swimming team, including swimming, artistic swimming, and diving, will participate in the Paris Olympics.
Korean swimming is truly entering its golden age recently. At the Doha World Aquatics Championships, Hwang Seon-woo (Gangwon Provincial Office) won gold medals in the 200m freestyle and Kim Woo-min (Gangwon Provincial Office) won gold medals in the 400m freestyle, and team events such as the 800m relay are also close to medals. Artistic swimming and diving are also on the rise, aiming for the podium.
Korean swimming has been without a medal for 12 years since Park Tae-hwan's 400m freestyle silver medal at the 2012 London Games, but both the coach and the team are full of confidence that they can achieve the best performance of all time with a medal again at this competition.
Lee Jeong-hoon, general manager of the Korean national swimming team, said, “(Kim) Woo-min and (Hwang) Sun-woo are aiming for medals. He did not hide his confidence, saying, “There are many other athletes who can climb onto the podium.”
Kim Woo-min and Hwang Seon-woo (Gangwon Provincial Office), the leading Korean swimming champions, are also waiting for the opening of the competition with excitement and anticipation.
The two teamed up to win the 800m relay gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games, and at the 2024 Doha World Aquatics Championships, Hwang Sun-woo won gold in the 200m freestyle and Kim Woo-min won gold in the 400m freestyle, respectively, and are heading towards the Paris Olympics in top form. Kim Woo-min, who won three gold medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games, said, “The atmosphere of the entire swimming team is good, and (Hwang) Sun-woo and I are running with good momentum. There are high expectations of reaching the podium. “I will prepare better in the remaining time to achieve my goal,” he said with a twinkle in his eye. Hwang Sun-woo also has great expectations and confidence ahead of the Paris Olympics, his second Olympics. He experienced both expectations and disappointment at the Tokyo Olympics as a high school student. “I used the disappointment of the last competition as a stepping stone to gain good experience at the World Championships and Asian Games. “At the Paris Olympics, I will achieve results based on his experience and expertise,” he pledged.
He also challenges for medals in sports other than business management. Woo Ha-ram (KSPO) and Kim Su-ji (Ulsan Metropolitan City Sports Council), the leading figures of Korean men's and women's diving, prepared for this competition with utmost pride.
Woo Ha-ram, who took fourth place in the men's 10m platform at the Tokyo Olympics, had a difficult time with a back injury, but has now fully recovered and hopes to make a comeback in Paris.
“She is definitely free from her injuries now,” said Woo Haram. “As the pain disappears, my confidence is increasing,” he said. “Even when I was injured, I did not lower the level of difficulty and continued to prepare for the Olympics with the same mindset. “She is in better condition than at the Tokyo Olympics,” she said. He continued, “Diving is receiving less attention than management, but diving is also challenging with the goal of winning a medal. “I can achieve it,” he said, expressing his confidence. Kim Su-ji, who improved her condition by winning bronze medals in the women's 3m springboard and mixed synchro 3m springboard at the Doha World Championships, said, “Her confidence has grown with the bronze medal at the World Championships. “She has been making good progress in the right direction so far,” she said. Lee Ri-young (Busan Swimming Federation) and Heo Yun-seo (Sungkyunkwan University) of Korea Artistic Swimming, who are participating in the Olympics for the first time in 12 years since the sisters Park Hyun-sun and Park Hyun-ha at the 2012 London Games, also pledged to do well.
Korea confirmed its potential by placing 6th in the free and 7th in the technical event at the 2nd competition of the International Aquatics Federation (AQUA) Artistic Swimming World Cup last month.
The two said, “Our confidence has grown thanks to our good performance in the World Cup. “I will achieve good results on the stage I have dreamed of since I was young,” he said.
Riyoung Lee said, “For the remaining period, I will focus on practicing upper body movements and full patterns to further improve my artistry.”
Meanwhile, the swimming team is divided into specific events and moves to Paris. The management team will leave on July 16th, the artistic swimming team will leave on July 22nd, and the diving team will leave on July 25th. 토토사이트
