How the follow system works

Follow authors, blogs, and topics to shape your For You feed.

Updated May 7, 2026

The follow system is what personalizes your experience on WriteUpCafe. You can follow three things: other authors, individual blogs in our directory, and topics.

What happens when you follow

  • Authors — their new writeups appear in your Following tab and may be boosted in your For You feed.
  • Blogs — new posts submitted to that blog (and guest posts accepted on it) appear in your feeds.
  • Topics — writeups tagged with that topic show up in your For You feed.

Following someone

Click the Follow button anywhere you see it — on profile pages, author cards in feeds, topic pages, or blog directory entries. Unfollow the same way.

Who follows you

Your profile shows your follower and following counts. You can see your full follower list under Settings. You can’t see who unfollowed you — that’s by design.

Follow limits

There’s no hard limit on how many people, blogs, or topics you can follow. But if you follow too many low-relevance accounts, your feed quality drops. We recommend curating — follow 30–50 people whose writing you actually want to see.
