Despite the fact that HCCI engines have higher thermal efficiency and emissions than traditional engines, HCCI combustion has numerous major challenges, including ignition timing management, restricted power output, and poor cold-start capabilities. Some of the solutions have a long response time and are challenging to execute technically. As a result, it appears that the fully HCCI engine needs further research before it can be mass-produced, and future research and application should be considered as part of an effort to accomplish low-temperature combustion in an IC engine under a wide variety of operating circumstances.
