Before my first visit to Budapest, I kept hearing the same thing from other travelers. It is charming, old-fashioned, and yet surprisingly cheap. I came in with an apprehensive optimism, since I have come to understand that budget-friendly can mean a lot of different things depending on where you are and how you will be travelling. I spent some time in the city, ate good food, moved around easily, and yet, I did not feel guilty of my spending, which made me know that Budapest does actually deserve its reputation.
With that said, being affordable in Budapest depends on your approach to it. It may be very generous to your purse, and it even provides sufficient opportunities to spend more in order to be comfortable or even luxurious. The thing is that you have a choice of beauty.
In case you are travelling on a budget and want to save money for your trip, then you can book cheap airport parking at Stansted at very affordable prices.
Best Price to Fit All Budgets
Accommodation was one of the greatest surprises in Budapest. In case it is a solo traveler, a couple, or even traveling with friends, other options will not be seen as compromises.
During one of them, I was in a basic guesthouse just outside the city center, which was clean, warm, and full of character. It was much cheaper than a normal hotel room in most of Western European capitals.
Hostels are also cheap and properly maintained with beautiful old buildings. There are also good apartments, and in this case, you can have space or can stay longer.
During peak seasons and festivals, prices go up, but even now, there is a tendency to find Budapest affordable in comparison with such cities as Paris or Amsterdam.
Frugal Food: Why Eating Well Doesn't Cost More
Where affordability really makes a difference is the food in Budapest. You are able to have a good, hearty meal without the fear of the bill.
The local restaurants offer tasty Hungarian food at what I still consider to be surprising prices. A bowl of goulash, a dish of chicken paprikash, or a pastry at a bakery can be much cheaper than a fast takeaway meal anywhere in Europe.

It is easy and cheap to get around.
Budapest is a walking city, although in the case of a necessity to use transport, it is cheap and easy. The city is well connected with trams, buses and metro lines and the tickets are very cheap in comparison with other big European cities. Multi day passes are also a great deal and eliminate the pressure of purchasing tickets several times.
I recall riding a tram to simply have my feet up and have a view of the Danube, and I remembered that I had spent under a week worth of transport only to have a glimpse of the Danube as compared to the amount of money I sometimes spend in a day in other places.
Fun Places without Burning a Hole in Your Pocket.
It is one of the best things that the city of Budapest can give individuals as a tourist to explore and enjoy without spending a lot or none at all. A stroll over the Chain Bridge, through Castle Hill, or along the river is free of charge and provides the views that cannot be forgotten.
Even the paid attractions such as thermal baths, museums and historic sites are affordable. The thermal baths specifically are very valuable in relation to the experience. It is luxurious to spend time in the warm pools and be surrounded with historic architecture without the high price tag.
Party in Boston on the Cheap and Budget-Friendly.
The night life of Budapest is diverse and offers all types of night establishments such as chilled wine bars and heavy drink ruin pubs. Alcohol is cheap, and one can easily spend time out without using a lot of money. I spent one night jumping through ruin bars, sipping a drink and imbibing in the scene and still managed to walk home with the feeling that I acquired more than what my money had earned.
Where Costs Can Add Up
Budapest is not expensive, yet it is not resistant to increasing prices. The cost may be higher in tourist hotspots particularly restaurants close to huge attractions. Hotels, restaurants and tours of luxury can soon inflate your spending. These are however options and not needed.
