Hello, my name is Atul Bhiwapurkar from Milpitas I have always felt that as a physician I should not stop only inside the hospital walls. My passion for assisting others and my dedication to my work is something I take with me every place I go maybe it’s California or halfway around the world in India. I was recently put to the test of this belief in a way that I could never have anticipated when I was in the middle of a traumatic incident at the New Delhi railway station.

I was in India on a personal visit when the jumbo crowd from the Mahakumbh rush let in unabrasive commotion at the stage. As I was looking forward to a normal day, it rapidly turned into a nightmare. The station was packed with devotees trying to get onto trains back home and before one could even understand what was happening, panic took over and a stampede ensued. I remember hearing frightened screams and seeing people getting trampled on top of one another. Automatically, I knew I had to enter.

Taking the Lead as a Medical Professional

At the point when I saw that the situation was getting uncontrollable, I wrestled my way through the group. My training as a medical professional kicked in right away. I saw people injured, some unable to breathe, and others still in shock. There was no time to hesitate. I dropped my baggage and started to the one who was in a severe state.

I immediately started checking one's pulse, getting up individuals, and supporting those who have fainted. There was a woman who had hurt her head and I speedily covered her wound with a cloth to stop the bleeding. An elderly man was gasping for air after he was trampled and I escorted him to a safe location while teaching him how to do some calming breathing exercises.

Over and over, there was panic. Folks were in need and I could do nothing. I was with other volunteers and authorities, but for me, it was a mission. Each person I assisted put life into what I chose to do as a career. It was never about the titles, the recognition, the accolades it was about being there to impact that person in some way in their day.

Staying Calm Amid the Chaos

When those moments of sacrifice arrived, I drew on my medical knowledge and all that experience I had accumulated. Staying calm was crucial. I was aware that panic would only make things worse. I preoccupied myself with making sure those man police were tended first before he was taken to all hospitals. I also instructed onlookers on how to assist without endangering themselves.

Dedication Beyond Borders

Even though I have my roots in Milpitas I do not believe in borders when it comes to medicine. As I, Atul Bhiwapurkar California residing or traveling to India to lend a hand my approach is always the same, every life counts. Work is not a job to me; it is myself. That day at the Delhi Railway Station was proof that being a doctor is a lifetime pledge, not a geographical or life conditioning.

After I returned to my hotel later that day, completely exhausted and emotionally spent, I replayed everything that had taken place. I was thankful for my training and my chance to help. Most of all, I was proud, proud of my job, and proud of who I have become because of it.
