Understanding Joint Pain
Many factors can cause joint pain. Some people feel a sharp jolt when the pain begins. Others may find it less complicated. Others may have more frequent seizures in cold weather. In most cases, temporary relief can be obtained by using pain-relieving balms and ointments.
What Causes Joint Pain?
There are many causes of joint pain. Polyarthralgia is a condition that causes pain in multiple joints. Common causes of joint discomfort include injury, infection, disease, inflammation and even accidents. These are the main causes of joint problems:
Arthritis
Arthritis and arthralgia are very similar, but they have important differences. Both are described as joint pain. However, in arthralgia there is not as much swelling of the joints as in arthritis. About half of arthritis patients experience persistent joint pain.
Injury
Injury is a common cause of joint problems. This may result from overuse, exertion, or impact to the joints that causes fractures, sprains, or strains. An example of a common knee injury is damage to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Certain sports such as football, basketball and soccer are more likely to injure the ACL than others.
Viral Infection
Some infections may cause joint problems. Joint problems can be caused by HCV (hepatitis C virus). HCV-positive people are more likely than others to develop rheumatic disease, which can cause joint problems.
Disease
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes joint and muscle pain. Joint benghalensis is the first symptom of lupus. The disease is diagnosed in more than half of the people who develop it. Lupus is a condition where the immune system becomes overactive and attacks normal, healthy tissues.
