My parents are to blame for my passion for travel. Simply because we kids would pester them nonstop for a vacation, they would make an attempt to take the family on short weekend trips and at least one international trip every year.

Now that I have greater financial independence, I can take my folks somewhere I know they will like. And I've discovered the ideal location: Sydney and New South Wales (NSW).

Here are a few family-friendly activities in Sydney and the surrounding areas I did with my folks.

Sydney Lunch Cruises on Luxury Vessels

This is one of the best ways to spend the afternoon on Sydney Harbour. Especially for those who are not acclimated to the Australian sun. Cruise past the best of Sydney’s major attractions, including the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, etc. Booking a day cruise in Sydney ensures that your folks are boarded comfortably and the time of day is right for them. With freshly prepared food onboard, air-conditioned dining areas, and the best views of Sydney, this is an experience your folks will remember.

Float on a Hot Air balloon in Hunter Valley

Float over vineyards and mesmerising valleys during sunrise. Then indulge in a delicious breakfast and sparkling wine served against the backdrop of the idyllic vineyards once you are done with the flight. From a vantage position unlike any other, take in the breathtaking views of the vineyards, farms, and mountains in the lower Hunter Valley. Take your folks on a tranquil experience on a hot air balloon flight and give them a memory they’ll cherish.

Get to know the Opera House

A show at the Opera House is one of those mandatory Sydney experiences. Even though it might sound corny, going inside the Opera House and getting a close-up look at the building's features, feeling the tiles, and exploring the public spaces is a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Sydney. And watching a show there will be a wonderful memory to look back on.

Walk around the Botanical Gardens

Following your tour of the Opera House with your parents, stroll up to Mrs. Macquarie's Chair (or take a taxi there) before entering the Botanic Gardens and having lunch at the lovely The Botanic Restaurant. This place is ideal for a brisk walk around the lush green gardens. One of the most well-liked tourist attractions in the city , this park spans more than 3 acres, and is a heritage-listed area. Walk to Mrs. Macquarie's Chair from here and you get to take in breathtaking views of the Opera House & Harbour Bridge in a single frame.

Stroll by the beaches

Sydney is known for its beaches too. One of Sydney's most popular seaside walks, it follows an esplanade-style walkway running parallel to sandy beaches and sandstone cliffs. This intermediate-level walk is ideal for visitors from out of town because it is full of natural sceneries like beaches, hidden coves, greenery, etc. And if you get a call for a treat, feel free to head over to the nearby M Deli or Three Blue Decks.

If you're visiting the city during  the last few months of the year, it wouldn't be difficult to get by in the city as there are many events and festivals. It will, however, be the hottest time of the year. If your folks aren’t accustomed to Sydney’s sun, it's better to go out and explore some fascinating city attractions that are air-conditioned, which would also work  if it's raining. This will cross out a lot of popular tourist destinations, including the renowned SEA LIFE Aquarium, the enormous Imax, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and many others.
