Nearly every other blog has a pop up where they offer to give you the latest updates on their blog in your inbox.  These pop-ups are one kind of lead magnet. Every blogger nowadays, emphasizes on building an email list. Your email list consists of the most loyal followers. They are the people who would be the first one to respond to your blog posts, your services, and your courses. And lead magnet is the key point in growing an email list. But what is a lead magnet?

In most of the cases, a lead magnet, which is just a pop-up, fails to capture any lead. As the lead magnet is little-advanced marketing tactics with some background work, most of the new bloggers fail to grow their email list. In this post, I will show you the complete steps to create a lead magnet and how to use it.

What is a Lead Magnet?

A lead magnet is a kind of information/help you offer for free in exchange for an email address. The lead magnets are targeted to the people who actually need it. The nature and quality of the lead magnets ensure that they reach the right people instead of offering themselves to a person who does not need it.

Lead magnets are also called optin, freebies, sign-up offers and content upgrades. But call it as you want, lead magnets are the opportunities to reach out your real customers and audience. They are also the platforms where you can showcase your expertise and help as many people as you can.

For me, lead magnets are my ways to help people. My main optin/ freebie is a free blogging course where I teach people how to start a blog and turn it into a business. My other freebies include a solid blogging plan and a 10-page guide to blog writing.

You can create as many freebies as you want. There is no hard and fast rule that they have to be complex and time-consuming ones. In fact, mead magnets which are easy to read/use generate more lead than complex ones. As long as they solve a problem of your targeted audience, they are perfect.

Examples of Lead Magnet

Free courses

Courses are an amazing way to capture lead generations. It can be anything, an email course, a video course or just a course on Teachable. A course can offer anything based on your blog’s content. For example, if your blog is on food, you can offer a simple free course on cooking some basic things. As my blog is on blogging and writing, my e-course teaches how to start a blog and turn it into a business.

How did I create my course?

I wrote several articles on how to start a blog and every single topic related to blogging. Then I repurposed some of my old blog posts by expanding them and added them to my course material. The whole content was then divided into chapters and modules. My course is hosted on Teachable, which is the best platform if you want to go for courses. You can sell any course on Teachable. They are easy to use and super friendly.

Now how did I use this lead magnet?

I wrote a blog post on why I created the course and what it offers. I put the link to my course and promoted the post on social media. I also have a pop up where my readers are offered a link to go to my course.

Guides

If you have in-depth knowledge of anything, you can offer guides to a particular topic as a freebie. You can also repurpose any of your blog posts as a guide. I offer a ten-page guide on blog writing as one of my lead magnets which was repurposed from one of my most popular blog posts. Here is the example of how I use it.

Checklists

Checklists are amazing things to offer as lead magnets. Checklists are good for making sure that you are doing a particular thing correctly. It promises to guide through an unknown process and ensure they did not miss any important steps.

Cheat sheets/Plans

A cheat sheet or plans generally guide to solve a problem. It is a step by step process to a work where your audience are helped for a particular task. I offer a blogging plan as one of my optins.

EBooks

If you are not comfortable with e-course, you can also offer the content as an ebook. For creating an ebook, you just need to convert the word pages into pdf files and offer them to your audience.

Here is how you can integrate your lead magnets.

How to use the Lead Magnets?

I have already described how I created my course. For my other lead magnets, I create the pdf files of both my free guides and put them in the Dropbox. Once I create the shareable link which can be offered to anyone, I create an optin box with my email marketing service provider, Mailer Lite. Once I put the shareable link from Dropbox in my landing pages, Mailer Lite provides me an HTML code which can be put into my blog posts. I also SUMO plugin to show my pop-ups.

I have been using Mailer Lite for last six months and I am loving it. They offer free services to the first 1000 subscribers. I use them to create my lead magnets, capture leads, send my newsletters and create landing pages. If you are looking for an affordable email marketing Mailer lite is the best option. Here is a youtube tutorial on how you can use the platform.
