Letterboxd is a social network for film enthusiasts to share film reviews and recommendations. You can also keep track of the films you’ve watched, keep a record of your film-watching, and  create watchlists of your favorite movies. In addition, you can share your watchlists with your  friends.

We’ve seen and experienced our social lives transfer from being a tangible experience to being a  part of the internet’s social culture. We are accustomed to using different digital platforms that are  good at a particular niche. Examples can be Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and so on. To have  another social platform dedicated just to films sounds like a chore for most people, but not for  cinema enthusiasts!

Although the numbers are comparatively small, Letterboxd has created a community for people  to share their love for cinema. Cinema is one of the few art forms that we have not explored  thoroughly. Letterboxd provides visibility to films that would go unnoticed otherwise. It also  serves as an extensive database for cinema. You can share your reviews, read about other  people’s opinions on different films, and learn more about cinema.

Let’s explore the application.
You can find any films you want to watch through the Films page. You can search for a movie or  browse the films by attributes like the year, rating, popularity, genre, service, and others.

The Letterboxd crew hand-picks films for you. You can find the films at the bottom right of the  page. If you cannot find a film, click the add or edit a film link at the bottom right. This allows you  to add a new film or edit existing films' information.
You can also:

  • Add the films to your watched list
  •  Like the film
  • Add the film to your watchlist
  • Rate the film
  • Review the film or log it into your diary
  • Add the film to a list
  • Share the film

You can view popular lists of films and create your lists from the Lists page. Click the More drop down in the Popular This Week section to view multiple lists.

You can also scroll down to view the recently liked lists and the hand-picked lists of films from  the Letterboxd crew.

The Profile page, in addition to your general profile settings, allows you to keep track of:

  • Your favorite films
  • Films that you want to watch
  • Your film reviews

You can also access your activity, diary, reviews, watchlist, lists, likes, and tags from the Profile  page.

All in all, it is nice to have such platforms for specific artforms. They help promote the art, educate  people about the artform, and showcase the artform's diversity.
