What people call these things but I have seen all of the tools that I'm going to discuss today called different things and the terminology well it can be confusing sometimes isn't really the point is what are these tools and what kinds of things can you do with them and as with the rest of the tool of the day I'm simply showing you the variety of tools that I have in my shop after 30 plus years of Metal Corner Brackets collecting tools what many of us refer to as the Horn of the anvil is referred to by some people as the BIC and I think that helps make clear why some of these tools are referred to as Bix BIC irons or BIC urns which I assume is the same as BIC iron just comes from a little bit different pronunciation so that's basically what this is this is a little bit different though because to me a baker a BIC iron is something that goes in the anvil and this one is really a stump anvil essentially the same except it has a pointed spike meant to drive into a wooden stump in fact. When I got this it was in an old half rotted wooden stump so that's probably the way this one was originally used and whether it was a primary anvil because it's a very old piece or whether it was an accessory tool I have no idea but it's really a pretty cool thing I have it mostly as a collectible I've never actually forged on it but there's no reason I couldn't there's still plenty of material here this is clearly Forge welded you can see signs of the old weld seams and it's been over the years because it has seen some rough use but that's really kind of the heart of what is a Bick or Bick iron is it's basically a double horn anvil in many cases but it doesn't need to be two horns this simple shop-made Bick is simply a single horn and you just work on this this particular one is meant for working on the cheeks of an axe so if I needed to work on an axe I can slide it up over Outdoor Screws here and work on the cheek part and I don't have to work on both of them at the same time unless there's some reason to so if I need to thin one out a little bit more that's not a bad tool for that somewhere I have a round bickerin that is just exactly like that only been round but the same shape now this one actually tends to hang straight off the anvil where you're not really going to be able to see it very easily so I'm just gonna show it to you this way this is one we showed in the the drawer of drifts because that's.
