Are you a pharmacy graduate aiming to start your career in Ireland? You're not alone. Every year, qualified pharmacists from countries like India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the UAE explore opportunities to practice pharmacy in Ireland. This guide will walk you through the essential steps to get started.

Step 1: Choose Your Preferred Pharmacy Role

Ireland offers several roles for phramacists, each with different responsibilities. Before applying, identify the role that best suits your career goals and interests:

  • Community Pharmacist
  • Hospital Pharmacist
  • Supervising Pharmacist
  • Clinical Pharmacist
  • Support Pharmacist

Step 2: Meet the Licensing Requirements

If you're from a non-EU country, you must meet the criteria set by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI). There are two main pathways:

Option 1: Study an MPharm in Ireland

Enroll in a Master of Pharmacy program at an Irish university. This provides a direct route into local registration and employment.

Option 2: Take the PSI Equivalence Exam (Previously TCQR Exam)

If you already hold a pharmacy degree (BPharm, MPharm, PharmD), you can apply to have your qualifications assessed and sit for the equivalence exam. This is a faster route if you prefer not to pursue another full degree.

Step 3: Start Searching for Job Opportunities

Once you're eligible or in the process of qualification, begin applying for pharmacy jobs. Use trusted Irish job portals such as:

  • Healthcarejobs.ie
  • LinkedIn Ireland
  • Indeed.ie
  • Clarity Locums
  • Xpress Health
