Eligibility Criteria


OTET is divided into two papers:

  • Paper I is for candidates aspiring to teach Classes I to V (Primary level).
  • Paper II is for those who want to teach Classes VI to VIII (Upper Primary level).

For Paper I, candidates must have:

  • Passed Higher Secondary (+2) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), or
  • Graduation with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

For Paper II, candidates should have:

  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), or
  • Graduation with 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education, or
  • Higher Secondary (+2) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.

Relaxation in minimum qualifying marks is provided for SC/ST/SEBC/OBC and PwD candidates.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Both papers have 150 multiple-choice questions, each carrying one mark. There is no negative marking. The subjects in Paper I include:mark. There is no negative
