The human mind sometimes forgets what it is pretending to be and what is real. There comes a time when our pretend personality merges itself with the one we are born with. This is difficult to get out of and does not change until external forces are not applied to change the situation for that person.
If taken into perspective, many people do not make it out of their pretend roles and are consumed whole by what they force themselves to be. Commitment and dedication to something negative has often led to the loss of great human beings, such as;
Heath Ledger
Heath Ledger played the Joker in the movie “The Dark Night.” Ledger was extremely committed to his role and went far and beyond to prepare for it. He did all he could to capture the essence of the Joker. The way he spoke, his gestures, and everything he could hae possibly been as a villain in the movie.
He locked himself in a hotel room in London and read all of the comics he could find on the Joker. He did intensive research into the role and did things to entrap his essence into reality. Heath ledger supposedly passed away in an unfortunate death due to an overdose. This was not entirely to be blamed on the role of Joker. However, the self-destruction which came along with it was extremely taxing on his body, and he passed away before even seeing the awards the movie and actor won.
Clayton Moore
Clayton Moore was the main character in the movie The Lone Ranger. He did not take up any other roles after this movie and continued to do personal appearances as the Lone Ranger. In multiple interviews, Moore had told the media that he fell in love with the character and did not want to separate himself from the character. In many places, he continued to wear his mask. He was famously known as Clayton Moore – The Lone Ranger, even after his death.
Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn was much more than what Hollywood pinned her down to be. She may have had a chaotic life but was a woman of grace and intelligence. She had a keen mind, wanted to explore her surroundings, and was an avid reader. As time passed, people still had not moved past her “bombshell” image. She was a beautiful woman who wanted to be more than what the world put her down to be. Sadly in her short-lived life, not many people could not fully understand her, nor could the world truly appreciate her true persona.
Pretending and playing can sometimes lead to tough choices and a lot of changes in a human. It can leave the person wondering who they really are. As Marilyn had an alter ego that she used to escape from the media, there are officers in the armed forces who use undercover identities to crack down on certain operations. If you have an interest in such books and operations you should look into the book Life Raft By Paula Ashcraft. It is an interesting book which shows how an undercover task can affect an officer.
