Reactors are large containers that contain a vessel body, some type of agitator and a heating or cooling system. Industrial reactors are used to process raw materials. They can be used for a variety of purposes such as reducing or producing chemicals, producing steam and power generation, etc.

EDF is preparing to build three pairs of EPR2 reactors at Penly, Gravelines and Bugey. Technical studies at a fourth site, Tricastin, are ongoing.

Buy Reactors

Purchasing nuclear reactors for sale allows you to take advantage of the low cost and energy security of the fuel. These b  can be used to produce hydrogen for industrial use, as well as being utilized to provide electricity. The low price of these machines also makes them a great investment for those looking to expand their business.

In 2006 the government’s Atomic Energy Commission (Commissariat a l’energie atomique et aux Energies Alternatives, CEA)* announced that it would proceed with design of a prototype Generation IV sodium-cooled fast reactor. This would improve the safety of this reactor type and demonstrate advanced recycling modes to minimise the ultimate high-level and long-lived waste to be disposed of.

The prototype, called Astrid, was to be built at the CEA’s Marcoule site. It was scaled back in size from the initially planned 600 MWe to between 100 and 200 MWe to reduce costs, mainly due to the development of a commercial fast reactor not being a priority for France. In 2019 it was announced that Astrid would be transferred to the Visegrad countries of Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia for further development as V4G4.

At Cadarache, Areva NP* along with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has been developing an advanced medium-sized (1100 MWe) Gen III design, the Atmea1 power reactor. This is intended to be marketed to countries embarking upon nuclear power programs. A proposal to build four Atmea1 reactors at Sinop in Turkey was approved by the Turkish authorities but construction has not yet started. In 2011 GdF Suez, now Engie, offered to buy 15% of the shares of Orano – which owns the patents for this design - from EdF and Areva NP in order to develop the project further.

Chemical Reactors

A chemical reactor is an essential piece of equipment used in many industrial processes. It facilitates chemical reactions between different substances, creating new compounds and changing the properties of existing ones. These devices vary in size, from the small open kettles often seen in laboratories to the vast structures depicted in photographs of industrial plants such as kilns used in the production of lime or blast furnaces that burn coal to produce steel.

There are two basic types of chemical reactors, batch and continuous. Batch reactors operate with the materials being loaded into the device at one time and the reaction occurring over a set period of time. The product is then discharged and the device cleaned for the next batch. This type of reactor is used for a wide range of reactions such as the production of colorants and margarine.

Continuous chemical reactors are designed to run continuously as long as the necessary starting materials are supplied. These are used in a variety of applications such as the production of chemicals, oil refineries and steel mills. The continuous process is generally faster than the batch process and the products produced are of a higher quality due to the residence time being constant. The disadvantage of this type of reactor is that it can be expensive to maintain the required conditions as the reaction progresses.

Industrial Reactors

Industrial reactors can be made from a variety of materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, Hastelloy and Monel. They come in a wide range of sizes from 2 inches to 192 inches in diameter with pressure capabilities that range from full vacuum to 13,000 psi. These vessels are designed to hold substances that are undergoing a chemical reaction and are used in various industries including mining and minerals, agriculture, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, paper and pulp, power, food processing and cosmetics.

Reactors are fabricated with various material weld finishes and heat transfer surface designs to suit customer applications. They can be insulated to control temperature or heated with steam, dimple jacketed and contain electrically heated, melting or mixing and vacuum vapor degassing systems. They can also be clad or agitated and fabricated with different sized inlets, outlets and ports.

On-site repair, upgrade & refurbishment services are also offered.

Used Reactors

If purchasing a new industrial used reactors is out of your price range, you can still purchase a used one. Aaron Equipment has a variety of used process reactors that are available for sale. These are less expensive than their new counterparts and come with a wider inventory of performance specifications like vessel volume, temperature and pressure ratings. There are also different types of industrial reactors available depending on the type of reaction you need. These include batch process reactors, CSTR, plug flow and tubular flow reactors. Other important specifications to keep in mind when buying a used reactor are its material of construction, agitation style and its shape. Reactors are usually lined, either with glass or metals such as carbon steel and alloy steel. They can also be horizontal or vertical.
