The Express Entry system was launched in 2015 as a response to the evolving economic and labor market requirements in Canada. This system administrates three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Workers Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.
These programs utilize the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to allocate scores to applicants. The scores are determined based on various human capital aspects, including work history, linguistic proficiency, occupational field, education, among other factors. Candidates who obtain the highest aggregate CRS scores are most likely to receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residency.
What is Express Entry category-based draws?
Express Entry has implemented category-based draws to extend invitations for permanent residence to individuals falling within six distinct categories.
These category-based draws will work alongside the existing selection methods employed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) through Express Entry. The existing methods include issuing invitations to apply (ITA) for permanent residence, which are determined by meeting the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off requirement among all Express Entry candidates. Additionally, draws are conducted to invite candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for specific programs, such as the Provincial Nominee Program.
