I’d been working and preparing for my MBA entrance and hence hadn’t had a chance to travel anywhere in 2 years. So finally, after I cleared my entrance, I decided to go on a trek. Out of the many destinations on my list, Kedarkantha trek in December sounded perfect as I wanted to make the trek in the chilly weather.
The Kedarkantha trek was to begin from Taluka and to reach there I had to first arrive at Sankri, a day in advance. In Sankri, I met my fellow trekkers explored the market and took enough rest so that I was well prepared for the next day. This Kedarkantha trek was to be a 5-day trek with mesmerizing views and a pleasant experience and I was looking forward to it. The next day we walked to Taluka to begin our trek. It was such a sight to watch trees covered in snow, they looked prettier than ever. At that moment I was sure that I'd made the right decision of taking the Kedarkantha trek in December.
We were headed to Juda ka Talab that day and due to winters, the trek looked challenging yet interesting. The trail was narrow but we reached the camp after 3-4 hours of walk.
That night when I conversed with the other trekkers, I learnt that the Kedarkantha base camp is a sight to behold. Eager to start our trail the next day we retired to our tents. The next day was such a blessing as we witnessed the Himalayan peaks of Banderpoonch, Swargarohini and the Black Peak – which I had till then only seen in pictures. I was feeling refreshed already. It felt as if all the stress and the night long studies were getting rewarded.
And the much-awaited day had arrived – trek to Kedarkantha summit. The Kedarkantha trek route had been amazing already and the best was yet to come. On reaching the summit we caught the first rays of the sun, a sight that has been imprinted on my mind – it was magical. I even caught sight of Gangotri, Yamunotri & also the Kinner Kailash mountain ranges. With a heavy heart, we made our way back to Hargaon – our campsite for the night.
The Kedarkantha trek had already come to an end. We made our way back to Sankri which is at a 4-hour walking distance.
I’m glad I took this trek after years. The Kedarkantha trek route was stunning. I'm hoping to trek at least twice a year and also looking forward to destinations as beautiful as the Kedarkantha trek.
