I decided to check out this book and avoided the hype. I did watch a video where the person absolutely loved the book. I guess I'm among the unpopular group because I wasn't that blown away by this book. It was okay. I gave it 2.75 stars. I don't really do reviews much because I suck at them but I thought what the hell I'll just do a random post where I just spew out whatever. So if you plan on reading the book and don't want to be spoiled this would be your cue to leave but come back since I honestly don't think anyone comes here but me.
Anyhoo the book was readable. It wasn't hard to get through. I was just a bit underwhelmed by how easy it was to get from the fae world to the regular world. Vivi was able to sneak out all the time to hang out with her girlfriend. If there was more of Vivi I would have enjoyed the book a lot more. I just don't really get Jude's way of thinking. Her parents are murdered by this man who takes her and her sisters to the fae world. Instead of wanting revenge or to escape she wants to become one of them. I guess I can understand that since humans are not liked in this world at all. They are pretty much the shit beneath your shoe after you stepped on dog shit.
I also don't like the assumed romance that is likely to happen in the future. There are just some things that go over my head so I don't know why in the hell Jude would want to end up with the guy whose name I'm blanking on who lived to torment her. Okay he might not be totally evil but come on what the fuck? As for Jude's twin Taryn I didn't really feel one way or another about her except for annoyed. She wanted to be accepted and to marry her way into the fae world so she'd be treated like an actual person. She was just so weak. You have three sisters. One wants to not be in fae although Vivi always came back for who knows what reason. She could stay in the human world. You have two twins and no one wants revenge on the man who took out their parents. It's not like all three of them had to want revenge on their minds. I would have been fine with just one. But no everyone wants to live there and not much is known about Vivi because she didn't play a big enough part.
I don't think I'll race to read the next book but I might pick it up just to see if Vivi plays a bigger role. She might since it looks like she's going to be in the human world with her girlfriend Heather and her little brother Oak. That might make the story better. As for Jude even nearing the end of the book I couldn't stand her. Bitch you aren't that good at the whole spy thing. Okay you get credit for trying to team up with the guy who was supposed to be king but oh shit that went out the window when the coronation turned into a bloodbath and what the fuck with turning what's his face into the next King. I;m guessing that's going to bite them on the ass. Did I read a different book? I didn't find anything to love about this book. The writing was fine but it was just really lacking. Why was it so easy to get from the human world to the fae world? If you're taken away to the fae world wouldn't you make some attempt to escape? Why would you just randomly visit the human world and come back? Original link
