The Indian Premier League (IPL) is synonymous with big bats, towering sixes, and high-scoring encounters. But even in this batsman's paradise, there have been occasions where bowlers have displayed exceptional skills, humbling even the most prolific scorers. This article delves into The Lowest Score in IPL History, highlighting the vulnerability of batting lineups against top-notch bowling attacks.

RCB's Dismal 49: A Record to Forget

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) possess the unenviable record of the lowest score in IPL history. In a 2017 away match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), their batting order succumbed to a fiery bowling attack led by Nathan Coulter-Nile and Chris Woakes. RCB were bundled out for a meager 49 runs in just 9.4 overs, with none of their batsmen reaching the 20-run mark. This nightmarish performance exposed the batting frailties and the dominance of KKR's bowlers on that day.

Rajasthan Royals' Double Dose of Woes

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have twice found themselves on the wrong end of the lowest scores list. Their first batting collapse occurred in the IPL's inaugural season (2009) against RCB itself. They were restricted to a mere 58 runs in 15.1 overs. Interestingly, the 2023 season saw a repeat of this batting failure, this time while chasing a target of 172 against RCB. RR's batting woes resurfaced as they were skittled out for just 59 runs, registering the second-lowest score in their history and the third-lowest overall in the IPL.

Other Instances of Batting Meltdowns

While RCB and RR occupy the top unfortunate spots, other teams have also witnessed similar batting collapses. Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) have recorded two of the lowest scores - 66 against Mumbai Indians and 67 against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the 2017 season.

These incredibly low scores serve as a stark reminder that even in a batsman-dominated format like the IPL, exceptional bowling performances can dismantle even the most formidable batting lineups. They emphasize the importance of a well-balanced team where both batting and bowling contribute to achieving victory.
