The Yoga of Mahabharata Course is designed to use the ancient text itihasa-purana Mahabharata as a tool for self-discovery. By exploring key aspects of antaranga yoga, the process of introspection described in the Yoga Sutras, through Mahabharata stories, participants can gain a deep comprehension of their psyche and its patterns.

The Mahabharata is a timeless epic that has been an integral part of people's lives for eons, often considered the fifth Veda. It contains a vast repository of human contexts that offer a unique opportunity for self-reflective exploration of one's inner worlds. As our world becomes increasingly complex, the Mahabharata provides an excellent lens through which we can examine our internal processes.

The epic also provides a diverse collection of "case studies" that cover almost all situations one encounters in life. The Mahabharata was written to make the subtle truths of the Vedas, Sankhya, and Yoga Philosophy accessible to everyone.

The course's learning outcomes are to awaken the archetypal characters from the Mahabharata in one's own life through dialogue and reflective activities, develop greater insights into one's psyche and patterns of the mind through experiential engagement with the Mahabharata, experience yoga as an integral science beyond postures (asanas) or breathing techniques (pranayama), increase the sakhi bhava (friendliness) and sakshi bhava (meditative listening) to listen to our own self and others from a deeper space, and evoke healing processes within oneself.

Throughout the course, participants will explore their psyche using the stories of characters from the Mahabharata, with the aim of bringing clarity and meaning to their lives. The 11-week course requires pre-work of reading select stories from the Mahabharata and writing reflections before attending each session.

The course's exploration is based on the teachings of Yogacharya T Krishnamacharya, the father of modern yoga, and his son Shri TKV Desikachar. It is not a didactic course on the Mahabharata but allows participants to delve into their psyche using the epic as a mirror into their mental processes. The course is dialogic and requires a willingness to be self-reflective, share with oneself, and listen to others sensitively. It is not recommended for anyone going through treatment for any psychological illness.
