Checklist
Everyone wants to prepare flawlessly for their trip to Italy, but in reality, you could leave practically everything at home except these four essentials and still be fine (minus a sore wallet). Make four sure all of them are in place before you leave the house!
Passport – Before you think about things to do in Rome, make sure your passport is intact. If you're traveling abroad, you must have a passport since you cannot enter Italy without one.
Travel Insurance - We never advise leaving home without travel insurance since anything may happen, and it's always better to be safe than sorry in this situation. For travel to Italy, we utilize and advocate Safety Wing.
Visa (if Required) – Italy is a member of the Schengen Area, thus nationals of the US, the UK, Australia, and Canada do not need to get a visa in advance for stays up to 90 days. Other nations might need to apply in advance for a visa.
Money – We advise taking two debit cards, and two credit cards (one to use and one to retain as a backup). Bring cards with no international transaction fees, if possible.
International Driving Permit — If you're traveling to Italy and intend to hire a car but aren't a member of the EU, you must be sure to get an international driving license in your home country before leaving.
Must Haves
Adaptors for Italy – You will undoubtedly require adaptors for your devices if you are traveling from outside of Europe.
Portable USB Charger – Don't worry if your phone dies while you're traveling in Italy; just bring a portable charger.
Water Bottle - Water will be something you'll want to have with you when you travel across Italy. Bring a reusable water bottle to help reduce plastic waste!
Portable Bag - A portable bag may be used for almost anything and is incredibly light and portable. It can be used for groceries, the beach, laundry, or other purposes. We strongly advise including one on your packing list for Italy because they are so useful.
Army Knife - Want to chop up that focaccia from the bakery, slice cheese from the market, or open wine bottles in your hotel room? You'll be happy you brought a Swiss Army knife with you!
Cell Phone - Using the internet instead of functional mobile phones while traveling and although that is entirely acceptable, things might become troublesome.
