The issue faced by a lot of Roomba owners is the Roomba refusing to move from its base after charging. This can be quite frustrating, especially if you use your robot vacuum for a cleaning session every day. Luckily, some troubleshooting steps can make the magic happen in your favor to fix this issue and put the Roomba on the path again.

Charging contacts should be an immediate thing to check. Dirt or dust accumulation over a period of time can prevent charging from taking place, or it can cause miscommunication between the docking station and the vacuum. Cleaning those contacts with a dry cloth will often solve the problem. Also, check that the charging dock is sitting on a flat and clear surface so the Roomba can leave without bumping into walls or furniture.

Oftentimes, the other cause could be outdated software. Hence, a Roomba firmware update is highly recommended. Firmware updates fix known bugs, improve navigation, and enhance communication between the robot and the charging station. To update the firmware, confirm that your Roomba is connected to Wi-Fi and paired with the iRobot Home app. Usually, the update will install automatically; however, you can also check manually for it in the app settings.

If you are still dealing with your Roomba not moving from base after updating, try restarting your device. Restarting can clear any temporary glitch in either software or hardware that may be blocking the system. If restarting doesn't work, factory resetting your Roomba may work as well, but this should only be used as a last resort.

With regular upkeep of your Roomba, cleaning the sensors, and updating from time to time, you can avoid most issues with docking. With you doing these simple things, your Roomba can easily leave the charging station and not have any issues picking up right where it left off.
