There’s a moment, right when a ship leaves the port, when the chaos of life seems to pause. The sea stretches out endlessly, the wind changes, and suddenly, you’re not in a rush anymore. I didn’t know how much I needed that feeling until this year.

I took two cruises over the past few months; one with Azamara, and another aboard a Radiance Class ship from Royal Caribbean and honestly, both were unforgettable in their own ways. But the real magic? That started long before I even packed my bags.

When Travel Planning Feels Effortless

You know how planning a trip can sometimes feel like a second job? Researching routes, picking the right cabin, sorting out excursions, worrying if you’re overpaying? Yeah, I wasn’t up for that this time.

So, I handed it all over to someone who actually loves that part a travel expert who just gets what kind of experiences speak to you.

They asked the right questions, suggested things I wouldn’t have found on my own, and somehow made the whole process feel like I had a personal concierge. I didn’t feel like a booking number — I felt understood.

Cruise One: The Azamara Journey — Small Ship, Big Soul

The first cruise was on the Azamara Journey, a smaller, boutique-style ship that honestly felt more like a private yacht. It wasn’t flashy just calm, elegant, and wonderfully personal. There were no massive crowds, no blaring poolside speakers just quiet corners, incredible service, and a ship full of people who also seemed to be there for the experience, not just the vacation.

We stopped at ports I hadn’t even heard of before places like Zadar and Hvar, where life moves a little slower and every cobbled street has a story. One day, I took a private cooking class in Split that ended with homemade wine and a three-hour lunch with a local family. It wasn’t on the cruise brochure it was one of those extra touches suggested by the people helping plan my trip.

Cruise Two: Radiance Class — Bigger Ship, Bigger Adventures

Later in the year, I tried something different: a cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Radiance Class. It’s definitely a larger ship, but somehow it never felt overwhelming. With its glass walls and open design, you’re always connected to the sea, even when you’re inside.

This cruise took me to Alaska and if you’ve never watched a glacier calve from the warmth of your balcony, it’s something you won’t forget. The ship had everything: live shows, gourmet restaurants, spa days, and even a rock-climbing wall. But the real highlight? A small group whale-watching tour I didn’t even know existed — booked by someone who had clearly done this before.

So, What Did I Learn?

Honestly, both cruises were amazing in different ways. Azamara was quiet and refined — the kind of cruise where you sip wine at sunset and lose track of time in little towns. Royal Caribbean’s Radiance Class was exciting and vibrant — with big energy and even bigger scenery.

But the best decision I made wasn’t choosing one cruise over the other. It was choosing not to do it all alone.

Working with someone who listened, who understood what kind of traveler I am, and who planned around that made all the difference. And that’s what I’d tell anyone dreaming of their next escape: don’t just go. Go well. Go wisely. And maybe let someone else do the hard part, so you can focus on the good part.

The sea is waiting. And trust me it’s even better when everything’s already taken care of
