Waveguide Rotary Joints

Dolph Microwave Rotary Joints (rotary couplers) are used to transmit microwave energy from stationary lines to rotating lines. The rotary waveguide joint is an electro-mechanical device with RF performance dependent upon rigorous electrical and mechanical design. Both single and dual channel type are optional. Available styles are defined by physical geometry as follows:

I- style - Two in-line arms both collinear with the axis of rotation.

L-style - One arm is perpendicular to the axis of rotation.

U-style - Both arms are perpendicular to the axis of rotation.

Different Shape of Waveguide Rotary Joints

The Rotary Joints can have divided into 3 shapes based on the port position. Selection is based on system application and space.

"U-shape" is both waveguide ports at a right angle to the rotational axis.

"L-shape" is one waveguide port is 90 degree with the other.

"I-shape" is both waveguide ports in line.

Application of Waveguide Rotary Joints

Waveguide rotary joint mainly is for microwave communications to connect different types of waveguides components. Electrical continuous performance is achieved by a chokes to eliminate metal contacts in rotary location. It is used to transmit RF signals between stationary and movable parts of a system. During operation, a stationary RF line needs to be connected to moving components of a system while rotary Joints allow these types of connections with low losses and minimal variation in performance while they are rotating. These rotary joints have waveguide interface on both input and output port. One is rotated while the other one is fixed. In addition, rotary joint operating frequency is limited by the waveguide size.

As one of waveguide manufacturers, we will do our best to meet all the needs of customers.
